In the wake of mass rioting and death in Afghanistan and other Islamic nations ignited by a fallacious Newsweek story, furious finger-pointing has ensued. The White House, the departments of State and Defense, and most conservative radio talk show hosts are blaming Newsweek for carelessness and irresponsibility. Newsweek, while apologizing for the error, protests that the story was vetted by a Defense Department official who objected to other aspects of the piece but remained silent on the Koran flushing part. Others are suggesting that the Bush administration prepared the ground for this rumor by engaging in routine degradation of Muslim detainees at Guantanamo Bay.

To complete my thought: Muslims regard their religion is the "adult" or final version of Judaism and Christianity. They have it backwards: Islam is the younger brother of Judaism and Christianity, and has all the defects of youth: self-righteousness, emotionalism, black-and-white thinking, arrogance, impetuosity, and a propensity for - to put it mildly - street-fighting.

A good trial attorney ought to try to contact the families of those Afghans killed in the rioting and bring up a billion dollar lawsuit aginst Newsweak. Heck, the troops themselves could sue Newsweak for putting them in greater danger. Ought to be worth a few hundred thousand bucks.

While I think Newsweek ia a pathetic excuse for a news magazine, the real culprit is Islam. Lawsuits need to be filed against those clerics that incite murder. Oops, I forgot, we can't do anything that might offend Islam....or they might kill us.

You may be right about that, but I say Leftists are useful idiots for the Muslims because the Left is so caught up in childish anti-Americanism that they really haven't thought through the consequences of their ideas. David Horowitz made this point in "Unholy Alliance." The left is so blinded by hatred of the West that it foolishly thinks that courting Muslim extremists is going to serve its own interests. It won't; the Muslims will kill them as readily as they'll kill conservatives.
