Put an Eye Out CBS cancels ''Joan of Arcadia,'' ''Judging Amy'' -- The low-rated former hits get the ax, as does the Wednesday edition of ''60 Minutes'' by Mickey O'Connor
Oh, God. It's official. At the unveiling of CBS' fall 2005 lineup Wednesday, the network announced that it has axed Joan of Arcadia, the underdog-that-couldn't, despite last year's Emmy nomination for lead Amber Tamblyn and much critical love. A second-season ratings slump made continuing it not feasible, said CBS chairman Les Moonves, calling it one of his biggest disappointments.
In other cancellation news, a desire to attract a younger demographic has spelled the end for two graying CBS shows: The awards magnet Judging Amy has heard its final sentence, and the beleagured Wednesday edition of news warhorse 60 Minutes, which suffered after a story that questioned President Bush's military service proved to be false, will stop production as well.
So what will replace these dearly departed shows? Among the new series that the chatty Moonves held forth on: a comedy about a family of doctors; a drama about FBI profilers; and, er, Jennifer Love Hewitt seeing dead people. ''I think talking to ghosts may skew younger than talking to God,'' Moonves said. From his mouth to... oh, never mind.
I agree. I loved Joan at first, but last season was going downhill. They started reaching big time, and I also hated the devil thing.
Where were they going with that?
Plus the originator gal is a big lib, at least she's religious.
They almost lost me when they had the sweetest character on the show (Adam) make a snide remark about George Bush.
Can these people not control themselves? For one minute?
Rats.
Three shows I never heard of aren't gonna be there for me not to watch.
I am deeply saddened.
Old Dan Rather is out of a job...oh yeah, he'll get to do a few reports on 60 minutes 1 ...we'll see if this really happens...in a nice sort of a way (hoping no one noticed especially rather), cBS just canned old danny boy.

Yeah to bad the sun set in the east.
No, they really can't seem to help themselves. The libs manage to get their digs into almost every program, whether it's drama or sitcom. And of course the "magazines" are pure liberal propaganda. I don't know about reality shows, because I refuse to watch them.
I noticed even JAG was moving down that path this last season--that plus all the soap-opera plots, and stepping through the gigantic holes in said plots.
So far, the one show that hasn't done that is "24"--I hope they don't start.
That's the funniest thing I've read all week. ;)
Nice the way they eased ole Dan out without actually firing him.
Speaking of Judging Amy (I was - you weren't), did it ever occur to anyone that no one gets an abortion on tv. They all want their babies.
Back from Candice Bergan through many others, they just can't quite bring themselves to run with their convictions and let a female star do it. They know in their hearts (or whatever they use instead) that people just could not stomach that.
Of course, on television the dratted little brat is never seen again--they just have to wear the pillow for a few months.
I was hoping somebody could detectify my meaning. Figgers it'd be a grrrrl.
Reality television!
I just don't get it.
My daughter was involved in a Q&A at her new job and was asked what she thought was the greatest threat to civilization and she said,
"Reality television."
(she still has the job)
My suggestion was CSI: Capitol Hill
I'll continue to watch the CSI series. Simply because I like William Peterson, Marg Hellgenberg, David Causo, Emily Procter; Gary Sinise and his staff at CSI: NY.
I also like Abbie, the Gotch Chick and the rest of the cast of NCIS.
Jack.
"Yes, Dear" made the cut again?
I just don't see how that's possible.
Now to replace them with Big Brother the Gay Edition, Big Brother & Sister, the Incest Edition and Big Brother, the Muslim Brainwashing Edition. CBS: Crud Broadcast Saturation.
Watched Law and (Leftist) Order lately?
They should just do CSI-Baghdad.
Same difference, with Andy Roooooony.
Oh, by the way, CBS.
You knew 'Raymond' was ending the series this year yet you chose to show a lame series finale.
I was hoping to see either Ray/Deb or Robert/Amy get transferred away from Marie and prove they could live without her annoyance.
Or even better, CSI New York investigates Marie's disappearance and Debra moves in with me.
"They should just do CSI-Baghdad."
Oh man. CSI likes the extreme graphic close-ups and heightened sounds. I don't think I could handle CSI's slow-motion close-ups of decapitations. And to make it worse they'd probably include the sound of the victim's noggin hitting the floor and rolling around!
