American Catholics lashed out in violent rampages in 1989, after photographer Andres Serrano's ''Piss Christ" Thats right, the violent rampages of American Catholics outweighs the minor altercation of Arab insurgenents.

"Then there was Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who announced at a Senate hearing that she had a message for ''Muslims in America and throughout the world." And what was that message? That decent people do not resort to murder just because someone has offended their religious sensibilities? That the primitive bloodlust raging in Afghanistan and Pakistan was evidence of the Muslim world's dysfunctional political culture? No: Her message was that ''disrespect for the Holy Koran is not now, nor has it ever been, nor will it ever be, tolerated by the United States.""

Aptly put.
The Buddists didnt quite erupt into a violent orgy when the bamiyan buddhas wwere destroyed by the 'religion of peace'. Who gives anyone the right to murder based on alleged desecrations?

I can think of a lot of reasons for their disrespect. Christians do not fly airplanes into buildings and blow theirselves up is two of them.

What is Jacoby trying to say? That people of various religions all over the world react violently to desecrations? I don't recall any Catholics getting shot by their government over the piss Christ incident or associated desecrations against the Virgin Mary In NYC. He really ought to let the Catholics speak for themselves anyway, what does he know about it.?

Jeff Jacoby is just plain one of the most consistent common sense, conservative, family issues oriented journalists we have.

see my post Although Muslims can certainly take legitimate exception to Western cultural excesses, they appear to use any excuse to justify their hate and commit violence against Western Democracies.
Perhaps one day, we will be forced to demonstrate to them what a western style jihad is really like.

---Yes, Islam is disrespected. That will only change when throngs of passionate Muslims show up for rallies against terrorism, and when rabble-rousers trying to gin up a riot over a defiled Koran can't get the time of day.---
I won't hold my breath! Violence, lying, and hypocrisy are the coins of their realm.

The simple answer is that Islam is NOT a religion of compassion and tolerance. Quite the contrary as the Koran allows and even mandates "holy war" to convert "unbelievers". Not that Christianity hasn't had its fanatics who committed murder and slaughter in the name of religion, but Christianity as also given the world people like Francis of Assisi, Father Damian and Mother Theresa whose compassion and caring for their fellow humans was without limit. Islam will be without respect until it too can produce models of compassion and tolerance like these.

Funny how Muslims have to go all the way back to the Crusades and the Inquisition to criticize Christianity; all we have to do is go back 24 hours at most to criticize Islam.

A Chicago Sun-Times article quoted the general manager of the Al-Arabiya television network as saying, It is a certain fact that not all Muslims are terrorists, but it is equally certain, and exceptionally painful, that almost all terrorists are Muslims.
If we can't connect the dots by now...we never will.

Excellent piece. As much as we despise Newsweek, we must not resort to blaming them for this violence, which is wholly the fault of the idiots who commit and encourage it.

But what disgraces Islam above all is the vast majority of the planet's Muslims saying nothing and doing nothing about the jihadist cancer eating away at their religion. The jihadist cancer is their religion. This is like saying "what disgraces National Socialism above all is the vast majority of the country's Germans saying nothing and doing nothing against the Aryanist cancer eating away at their nationality."

This is not a new situation. They have always and ever defended the brutality of 'their own'. Sort of like the kid on the playground getting a secret thrill out of the school bully beating-up someone else, (because it may be a benefit to the weakling, in the end), never mind the brutality of it.
