MEDIA: For the hard right, control of the government is not enough
Saint Louis Post ^ | May 18, 2005 | Eric Mink

Kenneth Tomlinson's crusade to purify public broadcasting is Nixon Redux. It's also Reagan Redux and Gingrich Redux.

Snip All this reads like chapters from the Nixon attack plan against public TV and radio

snip. If it weren't so damaging, the hard right's obsession with public broadcasting would be merely pathetic

snip Yet instead of just sucking up their annoyance with something few people see or hear, conservatives pump their pulse rates into triple digits and bleat about being the poor victims of liberal media bias.

"MEDIA: For the hard right left, control of the government is not enough"

There, much more accurate.

two broader opinion polls commissioned by CPB, which, according to reporting by Salon's Eric Boehlert, found "little viewer concern about bias"

Well, duh.

1... Microsoft "commissions" polls about how Windows is cheaper than Linux - is that a fair poll, or advertising?

2... If you survey your "viewers" then OF COURSE you are going to get people who like it - people who DON'T like it AREN'T VIEWERS!

Why should we just "suck up" our annoyances with these people? The left wingers complain all the time about Rush and Fox News. Why don't they suck it up as well?

By the way, neither of the aforementioned entities takes my tax dollars to broadcast its views, either. My tax dollars pay (well, paid) for Bill Moyers. The aggravation is not that the point of view exists, but that my tax money is being taken to support that point of view.

Can they ever think of anything besides Nixon, by the way? Nixon did not start the modern Conservative Movement. The big figure I always heard for that was Goldwater.

Salon is a PR group for the DNC. I was surprised they got another round of doners this year (it not being an election year).

"Nixon did not start the modern Conservative Movement."

That's an absolute fact... Jack!!! His domestic policies were attrotious!!!

He may have fought Commonism (I deliberately spell it that way nowadays) overseas, but he seemed to encourage it here at home at times with wage and price controls and the Endangered Species Act to name just a couple of the worst!!!

Believe me, the Left will never be satisfied until they control everything. Their idea of Utopia is a place where everyone is compelled to agree with them.

I clicked on this link, because I thought it would be one of those trashy alternative papers. But it turned out to be the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. It no longer ceases to amaze me how far down the sewer the MSM can descend.

What do they think they are publishing? The Koran?

Bolstered by his early success, Tomlinson has since hired a Bush White House staffer to help create CPB fairness standards and is championing a former GOP national co-chair for the chief executive's spot. Now, according to a report in Monday's New York Times, Tomlinson and other Bush appointees on the CPB board have turned their predatory gaze on National Public Radio and are pushing for - I kid you not - less news, more music.

How awful. The EVIL Tomlinson's trying to create more of a philosophical and political balance. And in place of PB LIBERAL BRAINWASHING SESSIONS, liberals call PB News, he is pushing for........music. What an idiot. /sarcasm

Eric,

Never ceases to amaze me how hypocritical progressive's are (actually I'm kidding I know exactly why that is). To think that Conservatives would actually want a little fairness when it comes to presentation of ideologies, how dare they. You people take the cake! It seems that you only consider journalism correct if it is so far left that your hero Lenin would approve. I don't want my tax dollars to pay for the garbage coming from people like Moyers who I have no use for, who are not Patriotic, sorry but that's true though I believe the explanation would be a bit much for you to comprehend. But what is not true is much of the reporting and "journalism" that is dominated 5 to 1 by left wing ideologues whose only credentials seem to be hyper left wing activism and not intellect. So take a Prozac Eric, take your head out of your cave and move to the light. There is whole world out there beyond the simpleton progressive theories that have dominated media, politics and Academia for the last 50+ years. Your experiment is over and "We the People " are left to clean up the mess.

Absolutely Sincere,

PS Your award winning journalist Moyers is only award winning because of the dominance in the industry of like minded buffoons. Rank him right up there with the creative fabricators like Rather and Arnett and Isakoff and......on and on and on.

Nixon - Media shocked "No one I KNEW voted for him"
Resigned for subordinates mis-deeds that he found out after the fact. Wuss Republicans abandon ship. He was atrocious for the conservatives. Wage and price controls, EPA, endangered feces act.

Reagan - Media to America - How could you be so stupid to elect this guy? Media unable to find much to smear. Iran Contra -Ollie North to the rescue takes full responsibility.

Clinton - Media parties non stop "Most ethical administration in history" Umpteen cabinet members resign, face charges for fraud, take bribes get caught, get shot, Clinton and Monica get hot, Hillary "I don't recall" shows her knowledge of her sisters - the bovine species and manages to turn $1,000 into $100,000 in cattle futures

Bush - wants to reign in Corporation for Pubic Broadcasting - We're ALL GONNA DIE

At least he sees the light.

You'd think they'd take at least some small measure of comfort from their control of the White House, the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives and, if their plan works, the federal courts.

BWAAAHHAAAAA cough.... cough...

It would be a lot easier to heed the Left's call to stop bashing the media if they didn't keep handing us the bat.

The Nixon reference dates the writer as someone who chanted Ho, Ho, Ho Chi Minh in college. I'm sure I'm not alone in wishing that whole miserable generation of New Lefties would just leave STFU and let the grown-ups get on with business.
