Minneapolis Star and Sickle ^

Click to learn more... A bill allowing more law-abiding Minnesotans to legally carry a handgun easily passed the House on Wednesday and now goes to Gov. Tim Pawlenty, who said he will sign it.

The Republican-controlled House voted 86-47 to reinstate the so-called conceal-carry law, which has been overturned by the courts. The 2003 law allowed adults with a clean record, no mental illness and proper training to get a permit to carry a gun.

"After the courts struck down the law, citing the procedure by which it was passed, the state reverted to a more restrictive system where sheriffs and police chiefs had more authority to refuse a permit application."

In MA we have a system like this, just beware of communist police chiefs. This bill is a step in the right direction but if one man doesn't like you or has a political problem with the second amendment he will deny you the permit and there is nothing you can do about it.

You misunderstand. Under our old law, getting a permit was strictly a matter of who your local police chief or sheriff was. In 2003 we got a new law, which REQUIRED sheriffs to issue carry permits to anyone who completed a simple training class and passed the background check.

In 2004, one jerk judge overturned that new law on the basis of the procedural way in which it went through the legislature.

What the law passed today basically does is reinstates the 2003 law, only by a procedural way which gets around the jerk judge's objection.

This is a HUGE victory for Minnesota gun owners!

I guess Lilly-hog will have to do more pro-boner work to try to ruin this too.

Thank you for straightening me out and congratulations, this is a win for America. If you folks had good fried seafood I'd move there. ;)

You have apparently never enjoyed Midwest piscean delight known as the Walleye Sandwich. As there is no shortage of walleye in Minnesota, it is quite common.

4 slices thick-sliced bacon
4 5 oz. walleye pike fillets
1/2 fresh lemon
salt and pepper -- to taste
1 cup yellow cornmeal
1/3 cup peanut oil
FOR THE SANDWICHES
4 whole wheat buns
butter, at room temperature
lemon pepper
garlic mayonnaise
8 lettuce leaves
8 slices ripe tomato

In a large, heavy cast iron skillet, fry the bacon over medium high
heat until crisp, about 7 minutes per side. Remove from pan, drain on
paper towel and set aside. Reserve bacon drippings in pan.
Rinse walleye fillets and pat fry. Squeeze juice from 1/2 lemon over
all fillets and season with salt and pepper. Dredge in cornmeal, pressing
firmly so cornmeal adheres to fillets.
Add peanut oil to bacon drippings and heat until it just begins to
smoke. Add fillets and fry until crisp, about 5 minutes per side. Remove
fillets from pan and drain on paper towel. Preheat the broiler.
Split buns lengthwise, being careful not to cut all the way through.
Butter each side of the bun then sprinkle with lemon pepper. Place on a
pan and broil until brown, about 3 minutes. Spread garlic mayonnaise on
the buns, then lettuce and tomato. Add fried walleye and a piece of bacon.

Sounds great! I remember something similar at seafood smorgasbords around Green Bay, Wisconsin. That was fifty years back.
