FREDERICK, Md. -- Two high school seniors who reportedly told a newspaper that they planned to drink alcohol after their prom said yesterday that they have been barred by the principal from attending the dance. Governor Thomas Johnson High School students Shawnda Lawson and Nicole Taylor, both 18, were quoted in the Frederick News-Post on May 5 discussing their plans to drink at parties after the prom this Saturday. "I like drinking," the newspaper quoted Miss Lawson as saying.

"I like drinking" How am I supposed to "construe" that?

These parents need to buy a clue. Teenage drinking is nothing new and neither is teen tragedies due to drinking. In my class (no I'm not going to tell you how many decades ago that was) there were only two who didn't drink.

Keeping them from the prom is not going to stop them. They will still go to the after parties and drink. The school stopped nothing.

"I like drinking," the newspaper quoted Miss Lawson as saying

And it will serve you well in your future profession of tending bar at Al's Tap.

If it's good enough for the Bush twins, I don't see a problem.

Way back when our juniors put on the prom, and the seniors hosted the post prom. We would never have talked about the planned post prom activities except among ourselves. The ancient Greek and Roman Elite would have been proud.

Miss Taylor said yesterday that if she chose to drink off-campus, it should not affect her prom privileges, even though she is underage.
"I know it's 21 and I'm only 18, but as long as it's OK with my mom, they should not worry about it," she said.

Maybe she's a FReeper.

Her mother, Sylvia Porter, said that she doesn't think her daughter drinks or that she planned to drink after the prom.
"It was all a misunderstanding," she said.

Another parent rushes to the aid of her little angel.

Gosh, what if they had drawn a picture of a mug of beer or a fifth of whisky? That would have certainly got them expelled!

If they are going to talk to a NEWSPAPER about their activiites after the prom, why didn't they also mention the sexual activities they were going to engage in, and with whom they were going to engage? I mean, let's get all the cards on the table while we're at it.

Earth to Sylvia Porter.... You are a prime candiate to have your night sleep interrupted by a phone call informing you that your daughter has wrapped her car around a power pole and whats left of her is a red goo.

If that was my child, he/she wouldn't be going to the prom (unless I am tagging along as an escort).

Like it or not, underage drinking is ILLEGAL !!! Do we even have to discuss drinking combined with driving ??

Next day, she'd sue the school for failing to keep proper tabs on her kid.

I recommend they do some illegal gambling in-between the drinking and sex. How about some illegal drugs (and those evil cigarettes) after the sex?

If they announced that they would engage in homosexual behavior after the prom the school would support them wholeheartedly.
