ORLANDO -- With four public high schools planning to hold graduations in a church, a student, her Buddhist father and an atheist parent sued Wednesday to move the commencements or at least cover the church's large cross.
Brevard County Public Schools maintain there is nothing wrong with using the 3,700-seat Calvary Chapel of Melbourne to host the graduations, as was done for three schools last year. A hearing in the case was set later Wednesday.

Oooo...the church must have cooties or something. Get over it. You are using a building not going to their worship service. Obviously these people are anti-Christian bigots who don't want to come into any physical contact with their dirty Christian neighbors. Wonder if they eat in the same restaurants as Christians? Use the same water fountains? Well, maybe they can make them sit outside in the hot sun for graduation instead.
I mean, I'm somewhat offended every time I see a crucifix but, my sensitivities have handled it every time (so far).
Even better, Do it in the gym, which has a limited capacity, and allow each student to bring two or three guests.
A local catholic hs makes its facilities available for the overflow from its neighboring orthodox jewish synagogue during the jewish high holy days. I believe they use the parking and hold some services in the cafeteria. St. Ursuline covers the statue of the virgin Mary in the main parking lot and the crosses in the cafeteria. I think that's right neighborly of them and everyone is happy.
I think the three people suing in FL should get over the venue and the church should make nice & put a drape over its cross. It may be in the back, but it will be facing anyone at the podium/stage. It is after all, not a religious function and the visiting group is not another religious congregation.
Okay people. If you don't like the cross DON'T LOOK AT IT!
They're looking for a large capacity, people-friendly center at a good price. That that happens to be a church should have no bearing on the final decision of which facility gets chosen.
Can it accomodate the people? Does it have the necessary facilities and equipment? Is it reasonably priced?
No one is attempting to found a state religion. They're just looking for a building. They don't have the right to violate the values of those who allow them to use their building.
It would be inappropriate to cover a cross within a Christian Church....it would be like desecrating the Koran (something liberals just "hate" to do.)
Ok, let those parents rent a more appropriate setting.
Oh but I'm "offended"...this is the statement growing out of the "political correctness", or another liberal MSM thought that has been drilled into the heads of the masses. "Politically correct" is a LIBERAL MYTH. If a man walking down the street stubs his toe, we should make it illegal to walk for fear that someone else may do the same.
Uh... what the hell does a Buddhist care if there is a Cross? I mean, its not like THEY have a god... just a quest for enlightenment.. how is a symbol of any religion an affront to them?

Not just Florida. Where I live, some years ago, a church (including a building that housed its Sunday School classrooms) burned down. A local school offered the use of its building for services and classes on Sunday. Some idiot sued (I believe the ACLU even got involved) -- school was ultimately forbidden from allowing the church to use the building.
Cover the cross? Why not just blindfold the offended parents. Or, even better, than can choose not to let the child "walk across the stage".
That'll teach junior a thing or two about right and wrong.
Its a promotion of an agenda. These morons wait and pounce on this kind of thing. Especially the atheists. Their denial of religious belief, or anything Christian, is a result of their fear to have to face it.
But that would be a REASONABLE solution. It'll never work. ;)
When I was in elementary school (a very long time ago - lol) our school was used on Sundays and Wednesday nights by people starting a church. It began with a handful of people and grew. Eventually the new church bought property and built a church - very big and a very pretty building. But it began in our school cafeteria and nobody complained. No one. Ah, for the good ole days!
