NBC Airs New Koran Desecration Rumors
NBC's "Today Show" aired unsubstantiated claims on Tuesday that U.S. troops had desecrated the Koran on at least two occasions, in a report that echoed a now retracted Newsweek story that has inflamed the Muslim world and led to deadly riots.
The "Today Show" broadcast also covered an allegation that U.S. troops had gang raped an Iraqi woman.
Commenting on the impact of Newsweek's blunder, NBC Middle East correspondent Richard Engel said the magazine's Koran desecration story was just one of several circulating throughout Iraq. "There's one rumor spreading today in local newspapers," Engel said. "It's been on the local television and it was also broadcast on the al Jazeera television network. It's that U.S. Marines, while raiding a mosque in Ramadi, kicked a Koran and then took it and spray painted in black paint a cross right on top of the Koran."
Engel said another rumor "came out a couple of weeks ago [and] was in a local newspaper.
"It said that during a search of a woman's bag, U.S. soldiers with a team of dogs were sniffing through her bag. She had a Koran in her bag. The dog pulled the Muslim holy book out of the bag with its mouth and that the soldiers started laughing."
The NBC newsman then sourced an allegation by a female terrorist suspect who had been detained at Abu Ghraib, who aired her claim in an Iraqi newspaper.
"[She said] she was raped every night by six American soldiers," Engel reported, before adding that U.S. officials deny the claim.
Syndicated talk radio host Laura Ingraham, who aired portions of Engel's report on her broadcast Tuesday night, was outraged, telling her audience: "We have an NBC reporter repeating rumors that are clearly being spread by terrorists to inflame sectarian violence in Iraq and to start a civil war."
I'm waiting for the follow up story on how many Bible believers have been beheaded by Muslims.
It certainly seems that way sometimes, if things aren't going bad enough, the MSM libs will actually help it along.
They talk out of both side of their mouth "Oh, yes, we support the average soldier on the ground" and then say things that endanger the lives of our troops. Absolutely enraging.

Since when did airing unsubstantiated rumors (from unnamed sources, yet) qualify as "REPORTING," pray tell? Heck, they get paid for doing what Mrs. McGillicuddy could do over the back fence? Except that she just destroyed her neighbors' reputations, while "journalists" end up getting people killed.
Or, to say I think the same thing differently, it's not Vietnam, and this has the press confused, frustrated and inflamed. They want America defeated and, most importantly, humiliated by defeat, revealed as illegitimate and evil in it's exercise of power, and cowed from future employment of American influence in the cause of liberal (as opposed to leftist) aims.
Like Vietnam, the goal of America humiliated overrides all other considerations, including the lives of ordinary citizens in allied states. (Especially, apparently, if they have black, brown or yellow skin.) The murder of millions of Cambodians, Vietnamese and Laotians, and the enslavement of millions more, was not too great a price to pay for the humiliation of America, nor would a similar fate for similar numbers of Iraqis and other Arabs be too much to pay today.
Why didn't Al Jazeera of the West (NBC) also report on the rumors circulating a couple of years ago that "giant spiders" were going to eat our troops??? Oh yeah, silly me, that would make our *enemies* look bad.
I guess we're in the slow news early summer months. They need to manufacture news.
