Hatch- It's clear they are not interested in having a discussion on Owens qualifications. It is also clear for whatever reason they are dead set against her on the bench.

he brought up the neanderthal comment.

I would like to ask the Dems if they consider the American people that elected the president and a majority of Reps Senators are extremists? Considering some of those Dems come from states that elected the president I'd love to hear them answer the question. clearly they believe we choose to elect extremists.

Way to go Hatch---he just brought up Kennedy calling her a.. "Neanderthal"!!!!

I never understood why the Pubbies didn't make a big deal out of Kennedy calling Brown a Neanderthal

I think Frist and the GOP are approaching the breaking of the DEM tactic in a thoughtful and wise way.

Absolutely. They, so far, seem to be playing it in such a way that they will achieve not only the immediate goal but are also setting the Dems up to once again pay at the ballot box.

I think I kind of scared him; but when I was done, he did tell me I was the most informed person he'd ever talked to that wasn't on the Hill. I informed him that FR was the place I learned it all.

There is one other important benefit from the methodical delay in procedure here - the public is susceptible to DemoncRAT fed media spin & hyperbole and would ordinarily be fearful from the rhetoric of the DemoncRATs. But they have gone so over the top here & their threats of shutting down the Senate don't sit well + draws attention. The timing allowed for public sentiment to shift in the Pubbies' favor and leaves the DemoncRATs once again looking pathetic, desparate & extremist. Once they lose they only get worse so it becomes a win-win-win proposition for the Pubbies and Bush is once again rewarded for taking principled stands and taking his agenda to the people. Those of us who are partisan activists would love for the Pubbies to get their act together more often & hate putting up with the absurd posturing of the RINOs. But these kinds of battles - and victories - only continue to stiffen their resolve and further lay out the premise for additional gains to be garnered for Senate races in 2006.

FReepers posting that it has been reported on CNN...Senators meeting in Warner's office, apparently. Ugh!

"don't understand what the 'deal' would be."

I do, and without even knowing the details. A "deal"
between Republicans and Democrats is a mugging of Republicans by Democrats. Always a bad idea.

Hatch is really making good points.

He is doing a fabulous job, but I have to confess I was praying that at least one speaker would refrain from saying "sharecropper," just one. I am still going to hope for that.

I'd like to know if those people think WE don't have any principles. Do they not think the other senators who do not agree with them have any principles?

He's doing very good... he's just about one sentence from the lead in evening news soundbite.

sorry: that "whip count" "compromise" is NOT acceptable.

It gives all the Demodogs the ability to say "Gee, whiz: it was not ME who voted against the minority woman" --- it was those rascally Republicans." ---> No accountability.

No compromise. Up or down majority vote is the only Constitutional option.

But I meant what I said; anybody who has ANY PART of a compromise will NEVER get a vote from me.

Judging by the comments today, I'd state the Dems don't think the GOP senators are even capable of reading the Constitution.

of moderate Ds and Rs would agree to scuttle some of the nominees - by agreeing not to vote for them

Sounds like the earlier 'compromise' that was floated last week which was turned down. Doubt any compromise will be reached- both sides have already gone on record as "the fight is on".

Well--if that is the "compromise" it sucks, and it better not happen!
