Why do we always seem on the verge of a breakthrough and the Repubs manage to let it slip away?

I think the Pubbies, being people of their word, mistakenly trusted the dems to be the same. They have been stabbed in the back and rolled so many times now that I don't think they will make that mistake again.

Why do we always seem on the verge of a breakthrough and the Repubs manage to let it slip away? It is very disheartening.

You're jumping the gun- be patient...

...My dad would call them "shad-wrappers."...

Shad, as in the fish? The fishy smell would be appropriate to the content.

Woodruff doesn't pay attention. Read the Congressional Record. Frist and others could not be more clear.

"All we ask for is the vote. All we want is an up or down vote."

Byrd even brought it up just before his meltdown last wee, "Where in the Constitution does it say 'up or down vote'?"

That is the question that just runs in a loop through my brain every day that I watch this crap!

I swear, if their a compromise after the way this day has gone, the GOP senators deserve every bit of vitriole we can rain down on them.....

yup
mccain and the progressives are negotiating terms with Reid, for their upand coming "jumping ship" to become the true 'independents' they are, in opposition of course, to the party they were elected within.

if we had the votes, this one would have been in the bag.
isn't this special?

until the vote these RINO's are going to attempt to broker a compromise. Frist has stated he will accept no less than an up or down vote.

The appropriate response is to nail their hides to the wall (the RINO's) if they think anything less than up or down votes for all present and future nominees is acceptable. Also, insist on a vote no matter what. they fear going on record.
Spend the time E-mailing, Faxing and phoning the Senators.

Email from NARAL (they are freaking!)...

It's Wednesday, May 18 at 3:16 p.m., and right now the U.S. Senate is debating whether to end the use of the filibuster. Turn on C-SPAN2 to catch it live (but only if you can stomach Senators First and Santorum's deceptive rhetoric).

We don't think politicians should have the only voice in the debate. Add your voice by sending a message to your senators today!

Tell us what you want to hear and we'll deliver your comments to the Senate. We'll also feature what you have to say on our website during the debate.

Please take action by this Friday, May 20 at 5:00 p.m. Eastern, so that we can deliver your message before the vote happens!

http://www.naral.org/

The following senators are winnable and may vote against Majority Leader Bill Frist's nuclear option. If we can generate enough calls to these offices we can still win and protect the filibuster!

Sen. Susan Collins (ME)
Sen. Chuck Hagel (NE)
Sen. Gordon Smith (OR)
Sen. Arlen Specter (PA)
Sen. Richard Lugar (IN)
Sen. Lisa Murkowski (AK)

Don't wait. Call your senator immediately - 202-224.3121.

100 hours of debate.
2.5 weeks.
add a few technical delays, and we have the first opportunity to go nuclear... sometime next month.

unbelievable.
