Welcome, all you Freepers, to the continuing C-span soap operas about judicial nominations. "The Guiding SEARCHLIGHT, " "As the SENATE Turns, "One NOMINATION to Live" "GERIATRIC Hospital" (for all you Byrd and Lautenberg fans out there). Follow along with us, as the Dems raise the level of histrionics, bloviation, pontification, and all around bad acting to new highs, er, lows...
Thanks for the physical description. That can tell a lot for sure and it sounds very encouraging to me.
BTW, can anyone post a link to the c-span coverage. For some reason, I can's seem to get to one on C-span pages. Thanks.
Arlen Spectre wants to be a hero. Fergittaboutit Arlen, Neither side trusts you!
Leahy has captured the soundbite du jour
"Religious McCarthyism...Religious McCarthyism".
MSM gonna love it!
It was Boxer on the Senate floor yesterday. I posted a comment about it on the live thread.
It's obvious by the demeanor of both sides that the Dems don't have the votes.
The Dems are going to attempt to pick off those votes from now till the vote, so pressure must remain.
Cornyn- nevermind Owens rulings folowed precedents put in place by carter, Clinton, or judges unimously confirmed by Senate.
To consider the judges as the ultimate arbiters of all constitutional questions [is] a very dangerous doctrine indeed, and one which would place us under the despotism of an oligarchy. --Thomas Jefferson, 1820

The People Confront the Courts
I thought it was the checks and balances part of the Constitution that gave Congress the job of overseeing the Judicial branch.
You're good girl! I had missed the body language I must pay more attention. Senator Cornyn, now there's a REAL man!
Cornyn rebuking the Dems talking points that the AG accused her of being an activist!
I'm game! Let's do it!
Thanks, Howlin.
(Wisdom is not the same as tech-smart!)
Senator Cornyn is rebutting the charge about the Gonzales comment. He is disgusted that they used this because he knows they know better.
That was likely Sen Boxer from Kalifornia...my current State of Residence!
There's even a better quote than that...and I think it was by Madison. Jefferson is often the relayer of info in his writings...we call it plagerism.
I believe you are right, in fact Mitch McConnell said to Tony Snow just today, if the votes were needed they WOULD be there.
You know, a lot of this is for the benefit of the press too IMO. Gives them something to report at night, I'm convinced.
nope , maybe in passing here
Cornyn- expulsions of articles of faith generally, removing the pledge, gay marriage, military recruiters kicked off campus....American people know when a Judge has overstepped their authority.
You know, I don't think we made enough of what Harry Reid said when he was objecting to Frist getting this started this morning....
The first thing he said was that the dems would not agree to ANY committee meetings during these nominations...
Which I say means, that they have basically closed down the Senate from doing its business, which is what they threatened to do--
I hear Mary Landreiu last night talking about her committee meetings re: the energy bill, and that she was going to propose the use of nuke power...all that has stopped.
Were the BRAC hearings on C-pan 2, senate hearings?
And he's doing it quite calmly, don't you think? Compared to all the hyperventilating on the other side.
I'm waiting for Hatch and Sessions.
