A weekend domestic disturbance call for San Juan police led officers to a shocking case of child abuse.
A three-month-old baby girl was found severely beaten.
Her mother, Brenda Robles, spoke exclusively to Action 4 News. She is now pointing the finger at the infant's own father.
"He beat her. I don't know why," Robles told us shortly after her arraignment.
San Juan investigators say little Lucia Denim Medina Gonzalez had been subjected to beatings over several weeks.
Cuts and bruises covered the three month old's tiny body. Police say it even appears that her father pushed down repeatedly on her stomach, and may have bitten her lip!
"As officers got there, they noticed the baby was bleeding from the mouth area. She had an injury to the mouth," said Investigator Jose A. Flores. "According to witnesses there, there was a lot of injuries done to the child."
Robles insists that her husband just recently began physically hurting the child, but the 21 year old mother claims she was too scared to report the abuse.
"I just noticed this. I just began to see what he was doing," exclaimed Robles as she was walking out of the courtroom.
"I didn't tell anyone because he would hit me and threaten me if I called the police."
However, officers who filed charges against Robles for failing to report the abuse, aren't buying her defense.
They say many of the baby's injuries were old.
According to police reports obtained by Action 4 News, many of the bruises on her face and thighs had already turned yellowish-green, indicating they were past injuries.
The search is now on for little Lucia's alleged attacker, her own dad.
Investigator Flores said, "we're still looking for the father, he's outstanding. His name is Mario Hector Medina Gonzalez. If anybody knows him, contact the San Juan Police Department or San Juan TIPS."
That number is 283-8477.
Police say Medina Gonzalez is a Mexican national. They fear he has fled back to his homeland because several acquaintances say Gonzalez had been asking for a ride back to Mexico.
Baby Lucia is recovering at a Harlingen hospital. Child Protective Services has launched their own investigation into the case.
I'd like to beat this POS "father" to death with a baseball bat.
But the facts bear out a different story all together.
Fully 1/3rd of ALL prisoners currently in US jails are ILLEGAL ALIENS.
Whenever Mexican Nationals get in trouble with the law, all they have to do is go home to Father Vincente Fox. What a disgrace the government of Mexico is.
Unfortunately it's a job that some Americans do, as well.
"Family Values don't stop at the Rio Grande" -so said President Bush, whose words on amnesty have encouraged these criminal illegals to jump the border.
You are under the impression that there is a check when people LEAVE the US for Mexico? LoL.
And I'd like to be there to make sure that you take your own sweet time going about it.
Ping! And I like your tagline!
I'm glad they were able to save the baby before it was too late.
Sounds good, I'm sure that there would be plenty of families willing to adopt this bay
How long is a baby classified as "newborn".
It seems three months is a stretch. I only say this because, increasingly I notice that the quality of writing of headlines is deteriorating rapidly.
3 months is 12-13 weeks. Article states she shows evidence of being beaten for several weeks. Given the child is only 12-13 weeks old, my understanding is that the beatings began almost immediately after her birth.
Reprehensible is too mild of a term for actions such as this.
(insert disgusted scream here)
Meth?
Works for me........hopefully his beating will last *several weeks* also.
