"I saw fear in his eyes," Palermo said. "The woman hit him head-on.... I don't know how she missed seeing him."
*I* know how.....she was probably merrily jabbering away on her cell phone about the latest "Desperate Housewives" episode.,....

Joseph Pozell, 59, was seriously injured just after 3:30 p.m. when he was directing traffic at the intersection of M Street and Wisconsin Avenue, NW, Sgt. Joe Gentile said. A 19-year-old woman driving a Honda CR-V ran into him while making a left turn onto M Street, Gentile said. May G-d grant him a complete healing.

A 19-year-old woman driving a Honda CR-V ran into him while making a left turn onto M Street, Gentile said. A Honda CR-V is hardly an SUV.
To: NormsRevenge
It was the SUV's fault. The driver is not responsible. Only the evil SUV is at fault. It has a mind of its own. It probably attacked that officer. You know those mean ole SUV's. Poor up brining by a pickup and station wagon which is its parents.

I'm sure he would not have been any less seriously injured had he been struck by a speeding hybrid vehicle, a truck or even run over by a chariot. Why if an SUV is involved is the vehicle reported as if it had something to do with the accident?

I was driving in the same area on Friday. It's hard to believe she could have been going fast enough to hurt anyone. It's pretty congested, even on weekends, with alot of cars creeping along.

I was shocked and upset when I heard this on the news this morning. I've seen this guy quite a few times, and he takes his job very seriously. So sad - I hope he recovers.

OK. For some FUN (truly) ... ( and understanding that we pray the officer's recovery)
Note that in this story, quoted below ...
"A 19-year-old woman driving a Honda CR-V ran into him while making a left turn onto M Street, Gentile said."
... No mention is made of race/ethnicity/national origin/gender confusion/ weight-to-height ratio/ marital-partnering status, etc. All we know is her age?
C'mon FReepers, make your best profiling guess. In the absence of any facts, conjecture about the nature of this woman. ;-)

How many people die every year in vehicle accidents? 50,000? No offense, this is a trajedy, but this not news at all. It has no belonging in any newspaper clipping beyond maybe a blurb for an obituary in the local paper if the officer dies. There has to be some alterior motive for the publishment of this instance, i just cant put my finger on what it is...

He has volunteered on many weeknights for nearly 18 months to help ease congestion during rush hours, and local groups recently honored him as a model citizen. Poor guy.
I guess no good deed goes unpunished by some stupid, careless driver.

Just out of curiousity, why does a Bakersfield, CA paper pickup an AP story about a guy getting hit by a car in Washington, D.C.?
