The Neals expect to be fined starting Saturday because they couldn't finish sodding, and their seed hasn't had time to grow. The head of Lantana's code enforcement told WPBF the town's given them the appropriate amount of time to improve the property and they will make no exceptions.Home owners associations and town code enforcers are the worst of the worst.

YES... someone called code enforcement for my mom putting down pavers in her driveway and my next door neighbor for having a covered car in her own garage!

Amazing. That HOA is a disgrace.
Hopefully a patriotic sod farm will pick up the story...they could sod that yard in an afternoon, I bet.

That's some thanks for serving our country, eh? He makes sacrifices so some weenie's most pressing concern is a yard without grass.

I just find it hard to believe that the county would raise my mom's taxes for putting in stone pavers that no one else has :(

I'm sure they will. I'll bet several people have already contacted WPBF 25 asking how they can help. Something along these lines happened where I live and because of the massive community outrage the offending party was shamed into rethinking and changing their position.

Yep, where are the good neighbors?
I love Oklahoma...yesterday we were trying to remove a tree that had fallen in our yard...got everything off the top, but had about 7' of stump to deal with! We were trying to pull it over with our pickup.
This guy driving by saw us and jumped out, took a reciprocating saw and sawed down deep around the root and that tree just popped out of the ground! Then he went home and got a chain saw and cut it into pieces for us!
I gave him a dozen fresh eggs for his trouble!
A complete stranger, just stopped to help. It's typical of Oklahoma, I've found.

What HOA???
This is the city code enforcement harrassing him.
Anyway, all he has to do is fix it as time allows, stop in on the evening council meeting at city hall and request a dismissal. With the news article and his Iraq service they'll drop the fines.

A real neighbor would have helped!I agree. When my husband was stationed away from home for three years, I had a lot of health problems and was unable to maintain our yard like I wanted to. We weren't in violation of any codes, but it just didn't look good. My neighbors, a couple in their 70's, helped me frequently. The wife helped me cut down a very large bush and helped me dig up the roots and she was 73 years old at the time.

"A real neighbor would have helped!"
Agreed!
This isn't simply "political" in nature.
In all honesty it is a sign of a real problem in America.
Most of us don't know our neighbors.
We may know their names... but we don't really know them.
How sad.
