I called the WPBF News Director, Joseph J. Coscia to see if I could get an update. He wasn't in so I started doing my research tricks and was able to locate a phone number for Mike and his wife.
I called and spoke with Mrs. Neal .
She gave me the latest update on what's happening.
Phyllis wrote a letter Mayor and asked if they could hold off on the fines until Mike got back from serving his country in Afghanistan. She didn't receive a phone call or even a nasty letter in return from them.
When Mike got home, the next day he seeded the lawn and got the sprinklers working. The City couldn't wait.
Well it seems there are some decent people in Lantana after all. The Neals paid $550 for the sod and the sod company laid it in place at NO COST for Sgt. Mike Neal and his wife Phyllis.
So, now that the Neals are in line with the standards being enforced by the Lantana City Council, who didn't want to even hear where Mike was or that Phyllis had been in and out of the hospital.
I wonder if they will decide that maintaining City property to the same standards as they are requiring townspeople to do will flash through their minds. It seems the cemetary across from City Hall is looking pretty shabby.
I'm sure Lantana Code Enforcement Officer Rich Walker is sleeping much better and his next performance report will certainly include the unnecessary harrassment of a GI's wife at home alone.
