Karimov also cited the uprising that led to the overthrow of Askar Akayev's government in Kyrgyzstan in March in explaining his regime's harsh reply to the violence in Andijan. Blaming the Kyrgyz uprising on "the weakness of authorities there," Karimov said protesters in Andijan expected his government to react similarly. "They had hoped that neither the local authorities nor the state authorities of Uzbekistan would demonstrate firmness, as it happened in Kyrgyzstan," Karimov said. "They wanted a repeat of the events in Kyrgyzstan and they wanted to move what happened in Andijan to Tashkent." They thought wrong.

Do you think George Soros/State Dept whoever overreached?
Seems Putin has drawn the line on these color coded revolutions.

Last I heard, only 30 confirmed bodies were found.
The 300 number is the number quoted by the prison breakers and islamist rioters.

Don't be so sure the usual Western suspects were not behind these "protests".
From: Uzbek president blames Islamic group for violence:
The protesters, some calling for Karimov to stand down, gathered on Friday after armed rebels stormed a prison and freed inmates, including 23 businessmen charged with religious extremism. The rebels then seized the building and took about 10 police hostage.
Former [British] ambassador Craig Murray said the 23 had been detained on "patently false charges of Islamic extremism."

Don't be so sure the usual Western suspects were not behind these "protests". Well, "the usual Western suspects" sent the Bolsheviks into Russia in 1917 and bankrolled them. But to their surprise the fire spread beyond Russian borders and almost devoured the German sponsors of revolution. The same Western civilizers (German establishment) helped to release another brown plague to fight the red one.

Well the democratic revolutions have brought a lawyer/mini-king to Georgia, a socialist and his oligarch PM to Ukraine and a former KGB strongman to Kyrgzstan. Not exactly a great record. Oh and it left purposely the Communists in Moldova, after they paid proper respect to the EU.

I'm as glad as the next guy here to see a few less jihadists above ground...but be careful about giving this guy too much praise. Karimov is a thug and a tyrant of the first order, and Uzbekistan is a hellhole.

Who are we to play in that hell hole? Trying to transfrom nations when we can't even get Social Security right.

RE: "Trying to transfrom nations when we can't even get Social Security right."
I don't know about you, Destro, but the only way I'm going to be happy with any "fix" in social security is if I don't have to pay into it...which isn't ever likely to happen.
I'm not a baby. On the contraire, I'm actually a semi-responsible adult when I need to be, and I don't like the idea of being broke-ass when I'm 65. I know what to do with my cash, and I'll know when I want to invest it in something...stocks or whatever.
I don't need the U.S. Government taking the cash from my pockets for the next forty years only to get stuck with an IOU and a note saying "we're sorry, but we're (and you're) broke...guess we weren't as solvent as Harry Reid thought".

That is what I am saying - we have issues - our republic is not being tended to and we are stirring up hornet's nests all over the world in order not to spread democracy (that is a crock) but to gain political influence over other nations.

After Bush's stupid speeches in the former Soviet Republics it was a given that his words would come back to bite him in the arse.

About how we should not sacrifice democracy for stability. Now every example where we have allies that don't meet New York standards of "democracy" will be questioned.

I believe that the killings were in response to these so-called protesters breaking out extreme islamists from prison, otherwise known as a jailbreak - easy for many to be backseat drivers.

"After Bush's stupid speeches in the former Soviet Republics it was a given that his words would come back to bite him in the arse." LOL! Bush acknowledged and championed the revolutions against the enemies of freedom. Continue to fail at comparisons between uprisings in Muslim and Christian countries.
Destro, if you want an American President's speech to the former Soviet Republic, whose words came back, try reading President Reagan's remarks on June 12, 1987.
