Pakistan urges US action on Koran (I Agree - Ban the Book - The Saudis Can't Complain)
BBC ^ | 13 May 2005 | BBC News - World Edition

Posted on 05/14/2005 3:07:18 PM PDT by Cornpone

The Pakistani foreign minister has said that if reports that US guards at Guantanamo Bay desecrated the Koran are true, they should be severely punished. Khurshid Kasuri said that the allegations had provoked outrage throughout the Islamic world.

At least seven people died and many more were hurt in protests in Afghanistan this week over the issue.

The US has described the incident as abhorrent, and pledged prompt action if the allegations prove to be true.

A number of protest rallies were held in Pakistan on Friday.

'Outraged Muslims'

"Yes, it's abominable the reports that emanated from Guantanamo Bay," Mr Kasuri said during a three day diplomatic tour of Australia.

"It's unthinkable that someone could be so debased, inhuman, depraved as to provoke the feelings of not just those people there (in Guantanamo) but all over the Muslim world.

Protests in Pakistan have been relatively low key

"I have no doubt that the entire Muslim world is outraged. So I urge the United States administration to take very strong action against the culprits."

Mr Kasuri said while the US had "distanced itself" from the allegations, their seriousness required firm action.

He said that was especially the case in the light of similar allegations of prisoner abuse at the Abu Ghraib jail in Iraq.

Unconditional apology

"In order to send a message, particularly about prison abuses ... I hope this time they take a much stronger action because the indignation and rage is universal."

"Even the worst enemy of the United States could not harm the image of the United States in the Muslim world as effectively as they've done if this is correct," he said.

There were demonstrations over the issue in several Pakistani cities after prayers on Friday, following days of protests and riots in neighbouring Afghanistan.

The US says it will investigate alleged Guantanamo abuses

The protests were organised by the six-party Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) alliance which called on the US to issue an unconditional apology or else it would step up its campaign to have the American ambassador expelled form the country.

But the BBC's Zaffar Abbas in Islamabad says that the protests were relatively small and largely peaceful.

Hafiz Hussain Ahmad, a leader of an opposition religious coalition, told worshippers at a packed mosque in Islamabad: "By insulting the Koran, they have challenged our belief. "We are hurt ... If we don't rise against Americans, if we don't give them a strong message today, they will do it again."

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice meanwhile appealed to Muslims to resist calls for violence, and promised that her country was investigating the allegations.

Ms Rice said on Thursday that desecration was abhorrent and disrespect for the Koran would not be tolerated.

The outrage in Afghanistan and Pakistan followed reports in Newsweek magazine that interrogators at the US Guantanamo Bay prison had flushed at least one copy of the Koran down a toilet.

Insulting the Koran or the Prophet Muhammad is regarded as blasphemy and punishable by death in both Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The US is holding about 520 inmates at Guantanamo Bay, many of them al-Qaeda and Taleban suspects captured in Pakistan and Afghanistan following the 11 September 2001 attacks in the US and subsequent US-led invasion of Afghanistan.

Islam has determined NOW is its time to arise and crush Western Civilization. It's clear in all their teachings.
Also clear that we don't have the courage to do what must be done to preserve our way of life.

Our government states Islam is a peaceful religion, yet ALL of the worlds terrorists are islamics. Millions of folks have flooded over our southern borders, since 911. Yet W calls minutemen citizen-soldiers... 'vigilantes.'

It's time to prepare for the likelihood of our own citizenry's throats being slit. The only reason Saudis and Pakis are holding back their worldwide accoutrement of assassins, bus bombers and child murderors, is because they know we MIGHT nuke the hell out of their national government.

"I have no doubt that the entire Muslim world is outraged." -- so uttered the Pakistani Foreign Minister

Big deal. I -- for one -- do not care! I utterly don't care and if I had a koran I would gleefully and with zest flush it down a toilet right this very minute!!! This muslim crap that is further ruining the world has got to stop ...

I'm not sure I get it. What is the problem again? We try to avoid actually torturing people by using other, less brutal means to get information from prisoners. Apparently that just isn't good enough for the Western media or our Muslim "friends".

Can't insult the manhood of our enemies, can't make them see the bare flesh of a woman, can't make them eat non Halal food, can't make them stay up late at night, can't force them to listen to heavy metal music, can't rattle their fanatical nature by putting a Quran on the crapper. I mean, to hell with it, how about we just put em' up at the nearest Sheraton and make them relax into submission. Yeah, sleeping on a plush bed and eating tasty room service all day oughta pressure the information right out of them.

This whole episode is just ridiculous. What's worse, it may not even be true. I actually hope it is since I completely approve of such tactics. When Saudi Arabia and Pakistan stop harrassing Christians and confiscating bibles, I might, and only might, worry about a Quran soaking up toilet water.

"there is evidence that one of the detainees tore up a Koran and flushed it down the toilet."

I had heard that, too. Newsweak should be severely punished if what they wrote turns out not to be true. Stating the obvious again, I know, but the liberal news orgs do NOT care about the truth if they can publish something derogatory to the US.

Why don't we just put them up against a wall?

Excellent post on the Submission of the Infidels your blog, expatguy.

Even if it were true, and I doubt it, they should get no apology while they continue to practice islamic religious (and gender) apartheid against us.

Any apology of sign of further weakness on our part now will only play right into their hands and embolden the islamofascists and prove to them the kuffar is weak, and can be pushed around.

It's almost like Osama's epiphany in Somalia when he, and his fellow Koranimals, thought the US was "paper tiger" after our troops left ("defeated," in his eyes), and the idea of murdering 3000 of us in our own backyards to change US policy again, evolved further in his twisted mind...

"The Newsweek article was on false and unsubstantiated information"

Is that official? I haven't been following very closely, last I heard the US government was looking into the allegations and Condi Rice had pledged action if they turned out to be true?

Condi Rice had pledged action if they turned out to be true?

What action can Dr. Rice take?

Lets see Dr. Rice pledge action against Saudi Arabia for their State sponsored banning and desecration of bibles in Saudi Arabia.

Do you know what is really sad about this is that Karzai and Musharraf and all the Muslims are calling on us to punish someone, presumably anyone for supposedly flushing the Koran---their countrymen cut the heads off of people and they make Videos of it for entertainment!

Now we are supposed to take the First Amendment rights away from "somebody" to satisfy THEM....

BUT, here in OUR country, there are more than a few teachers, professors, business people, politicians that would probably flush the Bible in a heartbeat!

expatguy says what I've been thinking:

"Had Adolph Hitler declared himself a prophet or a living deity and Mein Kampf the holy book of the religion of Nazism would we find ourselves equally helpless to confront the inherent evil of the political ideology encompassed by it?"

I couldn't believe my ears when I heard Condi.

"The outrage in Afghanistan and Pakistan followed reports in Newsweek magazine that interrogators at the US Guantanamo Bay prison had flushed at least one copy of the Koran down a toilet."

As I said on the thread below, (and as Rush pointed out on Friday's show), Michael Isikoff's publication of a sloppily-researched story is to blame for all of this fall-out. It was irresponsible of him not to have gotten to the bottom (if you'll excuse the analogous reference!) of the allegations, before rushing into print with it.
only explanation for his haste to publish an unfounded rumor!

See: "Pentagon Finds No Evidence Koran was Defiled" Turns out that one of the Gitmo prisoners was the one who was ripping pages out of his own copy of the Koran and flushing them down his toilet, in an attempt at sabotage........and for this, a total of around 20 of his fellow Afghani Muslims died - they killed each other because of this jerk-buffoon in Gitmo and thanks to Michael Isikoff, for whom I have no respect at all! http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1402895/posts

Youre damned right. The writer should show where he got his information or admit he lied . The editor ahould be made to explain why he let this story go in his paper with no evidence;
People have died because of this and a land we had on our side is switching over. As I said the media is our worst enemy.

This writer should serve time in a federal penitentiary.

I just saw Steve Emerson on John Kasich's show and he said this episode should be a seminal moment for Americans in that, they should realize how out of control the islamoterrorists are...

He said they don't even read English let alone Newsweek, but the Muslim groups here in America like CAIR are fanning the flames of this uprising---

He also said that in Canada they are "breeding" new generations of young people that want "jihad" against Canada and America, and the sooner WE come to grips with that and how out of control these people can get at the (to us) minor incident that wasn't even proven to be a fact, the safer we will be...

I have been on a thread today about how Bush seems "unaware" of the illegal immigration problem---well I think the dems and liberals and Bush don't seem at all "aware" of the danger of the islamoterrorists!!!
