Newsweek sparks global riots with one paragraph on Koran

Claim that the Holy book was defiled by US guards at Guantanamo Bay has incensed Muslims

Demonstrators show the depth of anti-American feeling in Islamabad after the Newsweek report (REUTERS)

AT LEAST nine people were killed yesterday as a wave of anti-American demonstrations swept the Islamic world from the Gaza Strip to the Java Sea, sparked by a single paragraph in a magazine alleging that US military interrogators had desecrated the Koran.

Re your article Gitmo:SouthCom Showdown

I wonder if you are sleeping well tonight.. I know I'm not.. You see, I have a soldier in the Middle East, risking life and limb for this great country of ours.

We as a family lose alot of sleep, worrying about him.. praying for things to settle down.. hoping for a 2 am phone call to hear his voice, know he's alright one more day. Sometimes we're really lucky.. sometimes we get a call during the daytime, when his 3 year old and 2 year old daughters are awake, and they can speak to Daddy and hear the voice we wish so hard for them to remember.

So, how about it? Are you sleeping well? Perhaps not.. perhaps you are worried about pulling together your next story.. I understand, Mr. Isikoff, that your career is studded with Awards from this and that organization.. many of them received for your investigative work on the Abu Ghraib scandal. I'm sure you're proud of that one.. it made it's way all the way around the world..caused waves upon waves of violence against our soldiers overseas, and now you've done it again...

Wow, this time, you even have rioters in the streets..their own countrymen killing them.. and the repercussions on our soldiers are just beginning to manifest. But hey... you're out there making a name for yourself. Tell me, do you trust your source of the Koran incident? Did it come from your ex-interpretor friend? Did you promise him that plug for his book if he gave up something good to print? Or perhaps you got that information from the court papers of the UK Gitmo prisoners who are suing our Government? Well, i'm sure 'they' wouldn't lie.

But, even if its true, even if there was a GI who threw a Koran in a toilet sometime in the past four years.. was reporting that worth the lives that have been, are being, and will be lost?

That old saying about the pen being mightier than the sword... your pen has murdered many already, with many more to come.

Sleep well, Mr. Isikoff.

Who gives a shit ? The Koran is the Devil's scripture. Its The Book of Evil.. Look here to see how it compares with the Bible/Christianity.

Good point and welcome to FR

I'm a US soldier stationed in Iraq, and I can tell you that there has been an increase in enemy attacks in our Area of operations since this article came out.More suicide car bombings, rocket attacks and IED's.Many soldiers have died in the last couple of days but then again I guess as long as Newsweek sells more copies, in the end it'll all be worth it.....

I've made a promise to myself to use my own copy of the Koran to wipe my butt for an entire week. This will serve to offend liberals at NewsWeek, and it will remind me that offending terrorists is a patriotic duty.

I've come to the conclusion that over the last 30-50 years probably 75% of what I thought was news was actually sh*t the MSM made up to push their Socialist/Communist agenda. And, half of the remainder ("...sources tell us...", "...a source who said...", "...an insider said...") was probably made up by the corrupt, lazy bastards! Thank you, Al Gore, for inventing the internet!

***About # 1, we know He had a beard, what what we don't know is if he had a beard, **

Yes, he had a beard. In his old age it becme grey and he dyed it henna brown. That is why many of the Algerian murderers dye their beards henna when they set out to kill.

It's quite amusing to see that all the Muslims in Afghanistan are reading Newsweek. It's also funny, but unfortunately not surprising, that such an article could incite my fellow moose-slims to murder. Perhaps we can use this knowledge in propaganda offensives to aid in the on-going war. These people are from another planet, and they are in this country too - not only the Muslims, but the Bill Frists, etc.

Secular, and Libertarians of the world need to quash the foolishness of fundamentalist religion in government, and in popular/polite society.

You couldn't offend me by putting anything in the toilet.

I will keep my subscription to Newsweek, as I think it's a good news weekly, however, the issue in question was quite underwhelming, as their last few have been. The issue on how George Bush won the election, and at least one of their subsequent health issues have been great.
