The last time the writer filled up with gas, it cost $2.05 per gallon.
During a recent visit to Greece, gasoline costs were $4 per gallon and up, and low when compared to the rest of Europe. Assuming Greece and the rest of the world buy oil on the world market, everyone pays much the same price for crude. The difference at the pump is in overhead, transportation, refining, taxes, and profit.
It is widely known that the U.S. has sufficient oil reserves to satisfy its needs for years, many years, even without the strategic reserves. But some of the arguments against exploitation of oil reserves are: use up their reserves before we deplete our own; theirs is easier and cheaper to extract and even with transportation costs from halfway around the world, it is cheaper to buy theirs; Theirs has fewer impurities, and that makes it easier to refine and meet emission standards; the lag time for U.S. to drill and build the infrastructure is both costly and fraught with political landmines, etc. etc..
With the cost of fuel, in many instances doubling in the last year, opponents to drilling in Alaska and coastal waters are more often than not of the political party that is supposedly for the little guy. If it really was for the little guy the poor and the disadvantaged, who can least afford increases in fuel costs, why does it continue its opposition to use of U.S. resources? After all, that opposition penalizes the same little guy, poor and disadvantaged that the Democrat Party supposedly champions.
Democrat opposition to exploration and exploitation has nothing to do with their interest in protecting the aforementioned classes of people, or even the environment, and has everything to do with obstructing and inducing failure of attempts to implement a multi-faceted approach to energy self-sufficiency. It wouldnt be a surprise if most of them own stock in some middle east oil company.
Democrats dont get it. They lost the election, now they are consolidating that loss into permanent political minority status. Even longstanding ethnic-minority-lapdog interests in this country are beginning to see through Democrat partisan maneuverings, and increasingly awaken to the fact that it isnt in their interests to continue going along with them. After all, the Democrat Party is: pro-high fuel costs, pro-homosexual marriage, pro-abortion, pro-higher taxes, pro-every-evil-issue-in-the-cloak-of-civil-rights, anti-religion, anti-morality, anti-life, and anti-marriage; all of which are issues that most minorities eschew.
Democrat Party machinery is finally being revealed for what it is, a bunch of rich racists who create, then prey on the fears of the elderly, minorities and women for the purpose of exacting from each according to their ability, and to each according to their needs. Regarding this last, those who understand, understand; those who dont, didnt and probably never will.

Even the boot lickers are running away from them. Good. Good for America.
Whom do you think we could choose to be the pallbearers of LIBERALISM, when it comes time for us conservatives to BURY IT?!
Those that DO get it are in her 'got mine' class.
A quote by the junior Senator from New York.
"'Many of you are well enough off that ... the tax cuts may have helped you. We're saying that for America to get back on track, we're probably going to cut that short and not give it to you. We're going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good.'" --Hillary Rodham Clinton
communism.
Some people will admit, though sheepishly, they're still Democrats. Maybe they're holding on to hope, but I doubt they'll last much longer. They appear to be some what ashamed, or look as though they need to hide their faces. They know they're admitting to be a member of the social losers party. It's self belittling.
I was shocked - and I mean SHOCKED - by two relatives who were school teachers, but are now retired and living in Florida. They used to constantly send us Howard Dean crap from wacko left wing websites. "Liberal Activists" wasn't a strong enough way to describe these two.
It was a while after the Bush reelection that we heard from them, and by golly they've seen the light! Maybe it was because I got sick of getting their junk in the mail, and I sent them a return e-mail asking them why they were members of the whoring, baby killing, homosexual, felon, racist, money thieving, elderly eliminating, no good low life party. Now, they're Republicans, and even send us pro- right wing and pro-Biblical (no kidding) e-mails !!! I don't know what lit their lamp, a bitch out or the truth, but it's obvious they've grown up. It's more than a welcome change. I don't think I could stand deleting all those kook left wing type e-mails ever again!
Liberalism died years ago. What we're fighting now is just outright evil and insanity.
It is evil (remember Regan's line about "The Evil Empire") and it is also insane - but the correct term for what we are fighting is "communism". And the lower case 'c' is deliberate.
BTTT!
It's too bad this is taking place at a time when the republicans are also self destructing.I don't know who is advising the republican party but the advice they're getting is terrible. The most recent legislation that approved $1 Billion to pay medical bills for illegal aliens will do more damage to the party than they ever imagined. They are a bunch of ignorant fools if they think the voters are going to forgive and forget this slap in the face.We might not have any other alternatives but that doesn't mean they will automatically get my vote.
How about some contrast between figures living and dead, figures left and right?
Ergo, the paragons of modern Conservatism on the Right side of the coffin:
1) Margaret Thatcher,
2) Ronaldus Wilsonus Reagan, Magnus
3) Karol Wojtyla-Pope Johannus Paulus, Magnus
4) Whittaker Chambers
5) Winston Churchill
6) Joseph McCarthy
And bearing the left side, the nadir of Liberal tyrannists:
1) Iosif Stalin
2) Mao Tse-Tung
3) Alger Hiss
4) Margaret Sanger
5) Jimmy Carter
6) Fidel Castro
What a great story, "concerned!" Thanks so much for the story. Now I feel a little bit better. Maybe the death of liberalism is closer than I'd even hoped for!
Char :)
Char :)
There are some who should be in the coffin rather than bearing it.
