When did Canada become a Third World banana republic? Consider just a few of the events of recent days: * At the Gomery inquiry, the former director-general of the Liberal party's Quebec wing, Daniel Dezainde, testified Wednesday he felt his "safety was directly threatened" when he ran afoul of a rogue group of party operatives whom, he said, had secretly seized control of the party's fundraising operations. * That was just the latest startling revelation as the public hearings into AdScam also heard testimony alleging witness tampering, kickbacks, influence peddling and tales of thick envelopes stuffed with cash -- taxpayers' money -- secretly used to finance the Liberals' political machine in Quebec. * In Ottawa yesterday, an already crippled House of Commons was shut down after the Conservatives and Bloc Quebecois combined forces to force an adjournment in order to drive home their point that Prime Minister Paul Martin no longer has the authority to govern. This, after the Liberals were defeated Tuesday 153-150 on a motion the two opposition parties said was a matter of confidence, while Martin insisted it was not. * On Wednesday, in a particularly nasty exchange, Conservative Leader Stephen Harper accused Martin of deliberately delaying a confidence motion on his government's performance until next Thursday in the hopes that two Conservative MPs who are receiving treatment for cancer will be too sick to attend. Liberals accused Harper -- although not the two MPs, who made similar allegations themselves -- of taking politics to a new low. Conservatives responded they're fed up with Martin's attempts to hijack Parliament, cancel opposition days and cling to power at any cost. * While arguing he does not want to fight an election until after Judge John Gomery issues his final report into AdScam next winter, Martin has nonetheless been in full pre-election mode for weeks, shamelessly and irresponsibly promising billions of dollars in reckless spending aimed at keeping himself in power. * A Strategic Counsel poll released Tuesday found a majority of Canadians surveyed believe Martin is the federal leader most likely to lie if he thinks it will be to his advantage (61%), the most hypocritical (54%) and the most dishonest (63%). The respective numbers for Harper were 26%, 29% and 20%. While all political parties and their leaders share responsibility for this mess, it's the Liberals who are responsible for the corruption that led to AdScam and for crassly clinging to power while wantonly abusing the public purse. Indeed, while most Canadians don't want an election, it now seems the only way to clear the air. Then again, after 12 years of Liberal rule in Canada, an election may not be enough to clean up Parliament. Perhaps a fumigation would do the trick. |
It'll soon be time to liberate Canada, methinks. Luckily we'll only need to mobilize the Girl Scouts.
I sometimes forget that Canada is still up there. Especially since the NHL was on strike this year.
Who would have thought that Martin could make even Chretien look good?
"Especially since the NHL was on strike this year."
LOL!
They are way behind southern California!
Naturally, they're on the ice to intro the movie.
I used to listen to Radio Canada Int'l on shortwave, until they changed the time last fall.
I remember "Adscam" when it was just beginning to be a nuisance a couple of years ago. It's also known
as The Sponsorship Scandal".
I always thought Chretien was emulating Clinton.
Thats nothing new here, the Democrats, and Liberals here have been using public money for their own agendas.
TO: Mr. George Bush
Dear Sir,
Our country, Bananada, has been over thrown by a corrupt dictator, leader of the Librano party. He refers to himself as "the leader of the land of tomorrow", and he wants to make drugs and prostitution legal and allow gay people to get married. Plus he calls Christians "Devils who eat babies" ( well his predecessor did anyhow)..
We had a fair democratic vote to kick him and his party out of office but he just laughed at us and won't leave.
Please invade Canada immediately and get rid of him, the God fearing honest people would really appreciate you for it and promise to restore a democracy as quickly as possible.
PS: We have no planes or tanks and our helicopters are 40 year old pieces of crap that explode on take off. Our submarine fleet are surplus British firetraps that can't even navigate under ice (which is everywhere in Bananada) and have no armaments. Our troops (all 2,000) of them are not even in the country and have no kit or bullets.
PPS: Our border guards dont even carry weapons.

Jim Duff, for Canada Free Press;
Gomery watchers have grown accustomed to hyperbolic descriptions of the various testimonies, but as someone who spent the past year interviewing Alfonso Gagliano, Beryl Wajsman and others for a book, I can honestly say nothing surprised me until this past week, when former PLCQ director-general Benôit Corbeil told the commission that whenever the perennially cash-strapped Quebec wing needed money, a call would be made to John Rae, executive assistant to the office of Power Corp. chairman Paul Desmarais. According to Corbeil, Rae would then call Banque Nationale president André Bérard to ask that the party's line of credit be increased. In three years, PLCQ's debt soared from $30,000 to more than $3 million. Why would a senior advisor to the chairman of a publicly traded corporation, a trusted confidant of both Jean Chrétien and the current PM, make a call to a bank president on behalf of the Liberals' Quebec wing? Which hat was Mr. Rae wearing when he allegedly made those calls? One has difficulty believing this service was in exchange for access and influence, given that the LPCQ's president at the time was Françoise Patry, whose day job was and is serving as administrative assistant to Power Corp. chairman Paul Desmarais and his wife Jacqueline.
Was Mr. Rae acting on behalf of Power Corp. in guaranteeing the Quebec wing's line of credit? That would beg the question of why one of Canada's largest financial-services conglomerates was acting as a guarantor for a political party. If so, did Power Corp. make a declaration of this liability to shareholders or list it for tax purposes as a donation in kind?
