Texas Tech will hold more focus groups and talk to more alumni before moving forward on planned changes to the school seal, regents decided Thursday.
The system Board of Regents took no formal action endorsing the delay and expressed support for the program, but board Chairman Rick Francis and Regent Windy Sitton told marketing administrators to slow down a major re-branding campaign.
(snip)
"I feel that when more Tech family has had the opportunity to view this, it will clear up a lot of misinformation that is out there; it will clear up a lot of rumors that are out there," Sitton said. "I really think it is better to do it well than to do it fast."
The direction came a day after a state representative filed a resolution supporting the original seal and a week after alumni and fans mounted an e-mail and phone campaign opposing rumored changes to school logos.
(snip)
Outcry from cotton farmers and alumni led Tech to announce the next day the return of some symbol of cotton to the seal.

WHere did a push to change the seal come from in the first place?

I suspect this ugly baby is the spawn of the regent's love affair with Smith or someone in his office. No one's rushing to get credit for the idea, that's for sure...

They manage to find half a million dollars for this useless fiasco, but no doubt, the students' tuition will have to be raised another 15-18% to make ends meet.

there are 3 or 4 background threads; keyword search: texastech, but i suspect the plan was met with enthusiasm from the chancellor's restaurant-smoke-banning, attempt-to-pass-cat-leashing, maiden-name-using, wife.

I vaguely recall something about the wife of the school's president not being able to keep her cotton picking
hands off the seal.
Probably in the first thread about the "proposed" change.

The anti-Christians seem to have run into a little opposition.

Yep. They can't seem to find money for graduate school scholarships, but they can find money for idiotic changes that no one, other than Smith, wanted.

A pox on Smith and his spawn. I wish that Smith and his Lady MacBeth skag, er, wife would keep their grubby paws off of our traditions.

One of their comments via email was that each department within the University has it's own seal - so what? If someone is applying to Tech's Med School, their seal is representative of things pertaining to the medical field, same for Engineering or Chemistry - who the heck cares if the seal for each department is a little different?
If they truly wanted every department to use one generic seal, they could just order the departments to use the main seal we all know and love-
More bs from the Chancellor - there is more behind this than what their long boring canned responses say

And by the way, how did Windy Sitton become a Regent?

These university chancellors/presidents (and their wives) need to understand that they are caretakers/stewards of these public institutions not dictators of same.

Huzzah! I owe you a Schiner for that excellent comment. I want to staple that statement to Smith's forehead.
