Darth Vader and Imperial troops to storm Paris boulevard
Thu May 12, 2:09 PM ET
PARIS (AFP) - Hundreds of Darth Vaders and imperial troops will invade a Paris boulevard Friday for a convention to mark the launch of the long-awaited final episode of director George Lucas' "Star Wars" series.
The three-day convention, to be held at the Grand Rex cinema, opens with a costume parade by fans along the boulevard followed by a concert with more than 60 musicians playing the theme tunes from the films.
"Episode III: The Revenge of the Sith" is set to get its world premiere on Sunday at the Cannes film festival, before going on general release on Wednesday.
Several of the actors and crew will be attending the Paris convention such as "Star Wars" producer Rick McCallum and 2.2 metre-tall Peter Mayhew who plays Chewbacca.
A spokesman confirmed the cinema's 2,700 seats for the first screenings of the last film in Lucas' prologue, which is supposed to bring us back to where it all began, were already sold out.
The film will be shown in Paris cinemas from midnight on Wednesday, with the Rex putting on a second screening at 3:00 am and then 10:00 am.

How long did it take Chirac to surrender?
"Zee helmets zeem remarkablee vamiliar... Come let's zee if we having anyzing zey wud like to znak on. Ah, zere eez my zizter!"
How do you say, "I SURRENDER" in french?
(BonJour?)
0.21 seconds. How long it took him to raise the white flag.
I don't get the Darth Vader thing. Every time I use a public bathroom, there's a drawing of him scratched on the stalls.
:)
"You are beaten. It is useless to resist. Don't let yourselves be destroyed as Obi-Wan did!" (D.V.)
At least there wasn't an accompanying sign saying, "Your powers are weak, old man!"
The frogs are even sleeping at 3 am... The force is not with them...
No but if I saw one of those morons parading down the street in their wannabe outfits I'd have to ask
"On t'a bercé trop près du mur?"
(Was your cradle rocked too close to the wall?) ie are you brain damaged...
HMM..the old joke about why the streets of Paris are lined with trees. Because the Empire likes to march in the shade.
Have to see if the Death Star can blow away a country rather than an entire planet.

Do I get immediately banned from this site if I say that I actually like France? And Paris in particular? I would welcome some constructive ideas for how to influence the French to conduct themselves with more self-respect and spine; I find it distressing that an otherwise very lovely and life-embracing people have no real concept of self-defense.
I was about to say - "how quick will the white flags start flying?"
The only think I have ever heard of that actually works with the French is bribery.
