Duke Energy, a leading U.S. electricity and gas utility, announced this week its support for a global warming tax (search) essentially a consumption tax on consumers of gasoline, oil, natural gas and coal. The tax is intended to reduce energy use and resulting emissions of greenhouse gases.
[snip]Fortunately for now, however, the politics of global warming established by President Bush, who pulled the U.S. out of the Kyoto Protocol in 2001 make it unlikely that we will be saddled either by an economy-hurting carbon tax or the dubious trading of hot air.
[snip]In mid-March, six energy companies Chevron-Texaco, Anadarko, Apache, Unocal, Marathon, and Tesoro surrendered to activist demands to take action on global warming, including disclosure of greenhouse gas emissioBut science is about data, not humility and the scientific debate continues to rage over whether humans are adversely affecting global climate. Just a few weeks ago, for example, the Wall Street Journal reported that a key computer model relied on by global warming believers, is seriously flawed, predicting global warming no matter what data are entered into it.
[snip]Through our public political process, weve already rejected the economic disaster known as the Kyoto Protocol, a treaty whose provisions would impose $100 trillion in societal costs for a hypothetical reduction in average global temperature of 1 degree Centigrade.

Good Grief!
No, the US Senate pulled the US out of Kyoto when it voted 95-0 AGAINST ratifying the treaty.
"Duke Energy"
Well one more company controlled by the far left to contend with. They got ya coming and going.
Is this a rewrap of Al Gore's BTU tax ?
Yep a lot of people skim over that one or simply play stupid about the fact that it was not just one guy that said NO...
Whats the point when a bunch of 3rd world mega polluters get away with not being Article 1 members even though they ratified it...it's a load of crap...
Take the Kyoto and shove it where the sun don't shine, you Duke Pukes.
Please Please Please - Can We?? - Huh? Huh? - Please???
Of course a 'business' is in favor of a tax. Only individuals can pay a tax since businesses just pass 'em on, cozening.
Duke just bought out Cinergy, who supplies most of the electricity for Indiana. How nice to know our monopolistic electric supplier is looking out for our economic interests. I suspect I'll be paying more for the same electrons.
(It's all the same electrons anyway; they just sell you the same ones over and over again).
Do we get a rebate when the climate reverts to its larger trend of cooling?
Later when my current wife and I were checking our credit reports we discover that Duke had put a negative report on our credit report. I contacted them and they said it was my SSN, thus it must be me. I told the stupid fools that I lived in Washington state, about as far as I could get from NC and was not living in Charlotte, NC, and could prove it. They pulled the account and asked me if my name was Chris. I said no fool, my name is not, that it was my step-son's name after they told me the last name. It took several months worth of wrangling to get those fools to take his crap off my credit report and put it on his report. He cannot get credit to borrow a dime because of his crummy credit. Ours has always been tops. I worked hard for that and wanted to keep it that way.
How in the hell are they going to manage that?
Who owns Duke Energy? I suspect the managing block is pack of foreign socialist.

Wait until after 2008 it is decided to outsource the Federal Government to lets say mainland China. Perhaps that will stir a few ears, then again it may not.
I'll pay the tax on global warming when hell freezes over.
You go to Court in Washington, get a Declaratory Judgement against Duke that it's not you. Serve Duke with the Order. If they do not remove the credit record, you sue for defamation. They could be paying your electric bill. See an attorney.
