couple of days ago, we rhetorically asked how low the New York Times is willing to go to slime Republicans. The occasion was this ridiculous claptrap op-ed purporting to show that John Bolton shares the psychological characteristics of psychopaths (and business executives!).
The author of the op-ed, Belinda Board, was identified as "a clinical psychologist based at the University of Surrey and a consultant on organizational psychology" by the New York Times.
The University of Surrey website identifies Ms Board as a PhD candidate, in other words, a student, not a faculty member. Surely, the Times knew that by identifying her as they did they were implying something more than a graduate student status. Moreover, the University of Surrey boasts
Our Department is considered to be one of the biggest departments of psychology in the UK and has over 70 PhD students
so Ms. Board is not exactly a member of a tiny academic elite of doctorate-holding scholars, but rather one of a hoard of would-be psychology laureates at a provincial university. She reported that the "research" on which she based her op-ed was done in 2001, four years ago. We have to wonder what her status was at time. An undergraduate?
This is the kind of "reasearch" and the level of outside "authority" figure the Times will use to attemtp to discredit John Bolton? Shame on Gail Collins, opinion editor of the Times.
Just recently, the Times solemnly promised to work harder to rebuild readers' trust. Is this sort of flim-flammery what they had in mind?
The answer to our rhetorical question is obviously very low, indeed.
Shame on Gail Collins, opinion editor of the Times.I second the motion.
Among the President's haters, and they are legion.
This is a great catch...Another lie exposed.
A candidate for the Dan Rather Hall of Infamy.
The Times has no comics page; they use the op-ed page instead.
I use the Times' editorial page to facilitate my morning bowel movements.
-Just recently, the Times solemnly promised to work harder to rebuild readers' trust. Is this sort of flim-flammery what they had in mind?-
All these, er, kerfuffles will now be blamed on the...news delivery guys! Yes, they just take the papers before a FINAL CHECK can be made on the facts! It's a serious problem, and the Slimes will make every effort to keep them in line!
Surely, a simple call or two would have forewarned the editorial board of the NYT. I can only assume they liked and agreed with the conclusions; hence, they just published. More of a blot on them then even Jason Blair.
Her opinions were her credentials.
New research shows UK men are just as keen as women to get hitched and settle down.
Scientists think it indicates men have the same 'biological clock' feelings as women. The survey, commissioned by Archers Schnapps, claims 48% of men said their ideal woman was 'the marrying type'. Psychologist Belinda Board, who questioned 1,000 18-34 year olds, has identified this new haste to get hitched as the male "alter ego".
Belinda Board comments, Its interesting that happily married role models like Brad Pitt and David Beckham, could be influencing young men by taking the stigma away from settling down earlier on in life. This in turn is prompting a natural competitiveness amongst young men who now fear being left on the shelf whilst all their friends get married."
She continues, Young women have different priorities in life than previous generations. Quite often the need to settle down and have a family is replaced with the need to be successful in a career or become financially stable. Compounding this, female friends are playing a bigger role in a young womans life.
TV shows like Friends, Ally McBeal and Sex and the City that influencing the next generation of young women more than we think.
