What is it with these right-wing Christians? Faced with a choice between sex and death, they choose death every time. No sex ed or contraception for teens, no sex for the unwed, no condoms for gays, no abortion for anyone--even for that poor 13-year-old pregnant girl in a group home in Florida. I would really like to hear the persuasive argument that this middle-schooler with no home and no family would have been better off giving birth against her will, and that the State of Florida, which totally failed to keep her safe, should have been allowed, against its own laws, to compel this child to bear a child. She was too young to have sex, too young to know her own mind about abortion--but not too young to be forced onto the delivery table for one of the most painful experiences human beings endure, in which the risk of death for her was three times as great as in abortion. Ah, Christian compassion! Christian sadism, more likely. It was the courts that showed humanity when they let the girl terminate her pregnancy.
...[R]ight-wing Christians increasingly reveal their condescending view of women as moral children who need to be kept in line sexually by fear. That's why antichoicers will never answer the call of prochoicers to join them in reducing abortions by making birth control more widely available: They want it to be less available. Their real interest goes way beyond protecting fetuses--it's in keeping sex tied to reproduction to keep women in their place. If preventing abortion was what they cared about, they'd be giving birth control and emergency contraception away on street corners instead of supporting pharmacists who refuse to fill prescriptions and hospitals that don't tell rape victims about the existence of EC.

Abstinence is fatal? Who knew?
Ping!
The usual drivel out of the brain dead left.
I would dearly love to hear their defense againt crushing in the skull and sucking out the brain of an innocent baby. If the girl gives birth it's unpleasant for a few months, but she just gave birth to a baby, if she gets an abortion, it's easy, but you just murdered someone. Besides, the guy should be glad his mom didn't choose to abort him, or take a morning after pill.
Marriage. =]
If only in the interest of preventing more Katha Pollits, in the future: I, for one, would actually be willing to consider this. :)
What they are unwilling to admit is that they need abortion if birth control fails.
The deaths caused by AIDS alone, a byproduct of leftist, everything goes thinking, should make this woman at least take a breath once in a while. And the beginning of the article is mind-numbing for its bigotry. Can you imagine any other group being refered to in this way? What is it with these Jews? What is it with these blacks?
The Nation. Latrina Van den Hooters. Yuk.
No. Most are opposed to sexual indoctrination masquarading as sex ed. And they want teens to BUY THEIR OWN contraception instead of taxpayers paying for it.
Death is what that 13 year olds baby got.
Cool isn't that?
Certainly a little research on the part of the author would
have provided all the refutation of his claims that is necessary. It's ideas such as "Teens can have an abortion and they shouldn't have to tell their parents" and the idea of killing babies in the name of "convience" that is driving the anti-abortion setiments. A signifigant majority of christians believe that abortion, when considered appropiate, is acceptable. (i.e. abortion after a rape, etc.)
This articles author is simply attempting to use shock tactics to prevent the discussion into an us against them mentality.
"in which the risk of death for her was three times as great as in abortion."
Where did she get this tid-bit?
Dang it
prevent = prevert
"What they are unwilling to admit is that they need abortion if birth control fails."
They need abortion because it is a very successful and lucrative BUSINESS.
If abortion is RIGHT and NOT wrong, then nothing can be WRONG.
Actually, I think this is rather exceptional drivel so far as drivel goes.
