> that commie Roddenberry
That commie invented a sci-fi future with RAMPANT capitalism. Why does Cochrane invent warp drive? "Money. Dollar signs." There are private freighters all over hither and yon. Bars and taverns everywhere. Profit to be had, riches to be made. Ok, so the people in Star Fleet don't (generally) seem to ahve so much interest in money. So what? They are the tiny minority. Everyone else is out to make a buck.

Dungeons and Dragons? For Satanists. Tolkien? For Folklore Studies majors who looked like the Pillsbury Doughboy and homely girls who liked unicorns. THAT IS SO TRUE! ROFL!!!!!!!!!!! I was the Tolkien-geek.

Most of the scientists and engineers I know are Trekkies. To some degree or another. But then, I'm in the space industry.

I am now dubbing wideawake as the Founding member of the P&V He-man Association (Piss & Vinegar) - seems every thread he shows up on, he's sitting there bitching about the joy someone else is having.
If I didnt know FReepers better, I'd think all conservatives were like wideawake.
Boy am I glad I don't spend all my Geek Time posting P&V rips. I'm not THAT kind of Geek....

I had high hopes for the last series "Enterprise" that it would return to swashbuckling style of Capt. Kirk but the first episode I saw had an alien "impregnate" a male crew member Few people realized that was a pro-life episode.

I stopped watching LEXX almost as soon as I started watching it because of some VERY blatant pornographic things that were happening on that show. It was a show I could not watch in the presence of my child. Example : one of the female characters sat on top of a box, which apparently was either another character or the televised image of one, and you could see the screen of this person through her spread apart legs and he was tilting his head upward and waggling his tongue upward as if...well, you can guess.
Sorry, but I dont need the SciFi channel to introduce me or my little girl to the joys of pornography/sex...we have enough of that shoved in our faces.

I knew that (a) being the first one on a Star Trek thread and (b) making a negative comment would put a target on my back.
Actually, I'm surprised by the absence of abuse.

No abuse - just tired of people coming in and trying to be clever with negative comments. It was the same way with the First Lady's jokes - too many people out there looking for something to be UNhappy about...and I no longer think its just a liberal phenomenon. There's more to life than politics and current events.
If you don't like Star Trek, why the heck did you post? I dont waste my time going around to threads and bad-mouthing what other people like.

Enterprise got cancelled just as it was getting good. The show that deserved cancellation after episode 1 was Voyager. What a steaming pile of sh*t that was!
Enterprise had some good moments, but Star Trek needs to rest in peace. Berman and Braga beat all the creativity and fun out of it and all that was left was formula and doing re-treads of old episodes. Remember how the children of Israel had to wander in the wilderness until the last of the slave generation died off? Star Trek should not be reincarnated until the last person who worked on it (particularly the Voyager hacks) are rotting in their grave. Maybe with a totally new creative team it could capture a semblance of its former spark.

Star Wars is infinitely superior. At least no character of that series is living in some pseudo-communist happyland where everything has been made perfect forever, apart from some nasty aliens. To be fair, Ivan, Trek did give us the Ferengi, the ultimate capitalists! Long live the Rules of Acquisition!

Yes, but note how the ultimate capitalists were portrayed as swindlers and somehow backward.

Now if UPN would just replace it with the new episodes of Doctor Who.
Star Trek, Star Wars, all kids stuff. For real Sci-fi, I'd take a Tardis and a Dalek any day.

I have loved star trek since I was like 6! Sad to see the run ending after all these years...
Before I die, I will collect ALL of the movies and EVERY episode ever made (of all series)!
