I wouldn't know. I only know my son should be transferring there "sometime soon," whatever that means. And when he does, I'll get to see him occasionally after not seeing him for an eternity.

So what does a "realignment" mean. I see my local AFB Beale is being "realigned"

I fell bad for that part of CT. I went to HS just up the river from there, and knew a lot of families destroyed by the Clinton year cutbacks which resulted in layoffs at EB and Pratt. More than likely this will be worse.

Defense Finance and Accounting Service, Limestone They say Limestone, but DFAS is actually on the old Loring Air Force Base. It has been the glue that has held the old base together. It houses 241 employees.
Most moved up here and bought homes. The next two months until we find out is going to be quite depressing.
It just seems that our lawmakers do not want to see our Country grow and thrive.

Your forcast is unfortunately accurate. I too am a CT refugee in Georgia. The nutmeg state is now overrun with illegal immigrants and deer ticks. These people will most likely pack up and leave it all to them.

Across the entire spectrum there are only some 10,000 military positions being cut and some 18,000 civilian positiions.... Hopefully that is an attempt to increase efficiencies....

Realignment means that the mission of the base will change, could mean a gain or loss of personnel, systems, facilities, and equipment but it's still open. Most likely the realigned base will gain, or at least "break even" in the end.

I love the area. Can't say I got along too well with a lot of the inhabitants, but I say the same about where I live now. :S
I guess I ought to find a nice conservative city/state and move there.

"I thought the center of the US Sub bases in the Atlantic was King's Bay Georgia?" East coast boomers anyway. I can't believe that Groton would be shutdown.

Sorry about the station at Pascagoula being closed but if you have ever seen it you would understand what a joke it is anyway. The entire small home port idea was a bit silly to begin with. I has only remained open this long because of Lott's position.

I thought BRAC was supposed to end in the early 90s? What happened to a strong defense?

Makes sense for Beale. Beale as a strategic recon base kind of lost a lot of its mission when they mothballed the SR-71. Satellites and drones seem to be doing most of the recon work nowadays.

It is a dilemma for them. LOL But they will figure some way to have it both ways they always seem to do so.

Any word on NAS Whidbey?Ever been there? Hubby and I lived there in the 80's when he was attached to a tactical electronic warfare squadron. It's beautiful. By far Puget Sound is the best area in the continental U.S.
