Sa far Ft Monmouth, NJ; Grotton, CT, Portsmouth Navy, Brunswick Navy and Ellsworth, SD.
they have been gradually moving the atlantic sub infastructure to kings bay ga for years all thats left is the sub school and i just dont think widbey makes it this time
That's what it looks like; it's a PDF linked on MSNBC
What does it mean when a base is being "realigned"?
There's a guy in our office that said he's listening to WJR in Detroit and Gen Grandholm is saying that TACOM and Selfridge are NOT on the closing list. He says there's some concern over our cateloging facility in Battle Creek.
That was a fake.
Tulsa ANG gains and it is bad news -- obviously you are not pro-military and pro-Oklahoma. People that complain about noise from military planes should move -- the military has been around a long time and people know when they buy if a runway is nearby.
AWACS flies over my house and I personally love the sound -- been around military bases for years and I love to hear the planes. Used to live in the flight path of B-52's in Fairborn -- F-16's cannot compare. Those planes keep us safe so I love the sound!
I don't know enough about how the capabilities supported at each is otherwise provided, or if the capabilities are slated to be diminished or dropped, to form an opinion about the decisions. Pentagon tends to be rather steely-eyed on these matters.
They aren't getting rid of Groton subbase. Tell me it ain't so.
It's there. Sorry, friend.
Thanks! I live 2.5 miles from Westover.
Thanks Howlin
Ditto that, I grew up in Navy Housing down there. It's going to destroy Groton...sad, really.
woohooo
Wright Pat is gaining 75 contractor jobs!! woohoo!! :)
Bingo! Communities that have made sure they did not encroach on bases are going to come out winners. Surge was a huge item on keeping bases so for the Air Force it was open skies and you don't find open skies in populated areas so Red States are making out there as well.
Submarine Base New London - Close
Good question. I'd like to know the specifics on that too.
I see Fairchild in Spokane, WA is listed as 'realign' as well.
Looks like the biggest losers are New London, CT and Fort Monmouth, NJ.
I have to be away for several hours. Please ping me to any NC bases.
Great post. Kudos to our Senator, Mr. Jim Inhofe.
