Suspect's trail leads west Fugitive's vehicle located in Los Angeles as police reconstruct escape route
By Sarah Langbein and April M. Washington, Rocky Mountain News May 12, 2005
Investigators in Los Angeles have located a white Dodge Neon linked to the ambush-style killing of a decorated Denver police detective, according to a law enforcement source familiar with the nationwide manhunt.
Denver Police Chief Gerry Whitman declined to comment Wednesday on the discovery of the car, except to say that police no longer needed the public's assistance in finding it. As the dragnet for suspect Raul Garcia-Gomez stretched into its third day, investigators continued to work around the clock, striving to make an arrest before the detective's funeral, scheduled for Friday.
More than half the department's detectives are assigned to the case, working with several other agencies, including the FBI.
FBI agents are helping to reconstruct Garcia-Gomez's suspected trail out of Colorado. Police believe he may have headed west through Glenwood Springs, stopping to refuel at a convenience store.

Yet another reason to build a 2 ft. thick, 20 ft. high concrete wall from Cal. to the Gulf of Mexico along the Mexican border.
Shriever Air Base has 2 fences approx. 50 ft apart with armed humvees patrolling in between. We are creating a really dangerous situation, as these people feel threatened, or there would not be a case of execution style murder of a police officer on a routine security assignment.
Is this story being carried by the West Coast press or other areas where the border issues are more prominant?

Does Colorado have the death penalty? Is it used/
Yet Denver is said to be one of the sanctuary cities. It has worked hard to attract these types of criminals.

Thanks..does each district atty have the power to make the decision to seek the death penalty?
It is a liberal area and it does promote uses for the same reason as CA. We have a lot of agricultural areas, particularly the apple, peach, and other fruit orchards on the Western slope that hire migrant workers. My point is that the illegal alien problem affects all of us, and this is a prime example of how the policy is resulting in violence, and particularly is disturbing that a police officer would be ambushed and shot in the back of the head.
I'd have to check to be sure, but presumably so
Very nice
