MODESTO, Calif. -- Midriff-baring shirts, low-rise pants, pajamas and slippers will all be off limits this fall for thousands of student in Modesto. So, what will students wear?
Several students that KCRA-TV in Sacramento talked with said they don't know what they will wear when the new dress code rules go into effect because almost everything in their closet does not comply with the dress code. Violating the dress code can draw a suspension.
"I think it is ridiculous. Everywhere you shop, there is nothing to get," said student Ashley Taylor.
Student Alexis Thompson said the new school rules will wipe out her current wardrobe.
"I will probably have to buy all new clothing for next year. It is going to be hard because pretty much all the stores sell lingerie," Thompson said.
And it's not just the girls who will have to dress more conservative. Mike Tershler, a senior at Davis High School, said he likes to show off his boxers, which peak over his pants -- a look that is banned for next year.
"I think I look good, pretty sexy. The ladies like it," Tershler said.
Principal Jeff Albritton is prepared to enforce the dress code in the fall. He said it is a matter of prioritizing education.
"The focus of school has to be business. And this is a distraction that keeps kids minds on what they are here for," Albritton said.
But not all students are against the ban.
"I agree with most of the things because I don't want to see a bunch of skin showing because that is not very classy," said student Kathleen Swicegood. "And we are in an environment where we are supposed to be sort of business like. We are trying to grow up."
Clothing business Anchor Blue has some skin-baring clothes, but the store manager said the key is dressing it up for school.
Students have a big incentive to comply with the new dress code. They will get one warning. After that, they will be suspended

Hey - it's not just the discount stores - go to your Foely's, Dillards, Gap, LimitedToo, etc. - you will see the same thing - just pricier. I shop for three girls - ages 9 through 12 - think I don't come home with only one nerve left? The shorts are shorter, the tops shorter, the bathing suits skimpier. It didn't just happen. The market will give you what sells and obviously there are buyers that it suits.
Seriously, maybe some of you Freeper woman (or girls) can help my wife. She's petite, about the size of a medium build highschooler (5'6". 110 lbs) and having the same problem of finding non-slutty clothes.
Can anyone recommend any national chains which they consistently find normal (OK I guess conservative, now) clothes where her ass crack and midrift won't hang out?
I ask for national 'cause we're in Upstate NY - if you know of something local - please do tell!
J.C. Penney has conservative clothing and it's reasonably priced.
I never knew about them until our teeneaged daughter got into Anime. She had stumbled upon one of the sites while looking for Anime. She said they were disturbing and made sure she didn't stumble onto them again. She said there were a lot of fan girls for anime, but mostly fan boys for hentai.
yes, pajama bottoms (baggy with a print) and slippers have been the rage for a couple of years now with the teenage girl set...I have no idea why, but go to a mall and you will see them - baggy pj bottoms and a teeny little tank top. LOL.
Our daughter is 17, and she HATES the styles in the stores. I buy her clothes mostly from Eddie Bauer, and she likes them! She especially likes their sleeveless crew neck t-shirts because she hates the low cut tank tops that are sold everywhere else. I just let her choose from the website, and they have good sales from time to time.

We have bought Old Navy online with great success plus we hit the store near the mall. Many of their shorts actually have legs in them as opposed to barely covering the cheeks.

The thing with old navy (from personal experience) is that their clothes are so cheaply made they only last me one season. It's a shame b/c I do like the styles and they are comfortable I just hate having to restock my wardrobe every season.

Talbots, Anne Taylor Loft and Boston Proper are NOT cheap (not crazy expensive either) I have bought from all three and have had no problems. Their websites are good places to look.
No, Ashley. Everywhere YOU shop has inappropriate school clothing. I can find very nice clothes everywhere I go.
