Gov. Mike Easley climbed into Hendrick Motorsports' No. 48 car at the Executive Mansion today, blasted out of the driveway and promptly lost control, missing a parked Mercedes sedan and a utility pole by mere inches. He crashed a retired No. 48 car into the wall at Lowe's Motor Speedway two years ago this week.Updated: 3:28 PM

Gov. Mike Easley is pushed from a curb after he lost control of a borrowed race car. The incident occurred seconds after he peeled out of the Executive Mansion driveway in downtown Raleigh. Easley narrowly missed crashing into a utility pole and a parked car.

Is there any irony in the fact that both times it's been Hendrick cars he's wrecked?

"Of course, aggressive driving is nothing new for Easley, who crashed a stock car into the wall at Lowe's Motor Speedway two years ago this week."
Stupid fool.
This time he was NOT on a speedway.
But, he's a 'Rat.
It's understandable.
Thanks for the ping to a Stupid 'Rat Tricks thread. lol

"Is there any irony in the fact that both times it's been Hendrick cars he's wrecked?"No, probably not. They probably brought out that car because it's the home team sponsor (Lowe's Motor Speedway) with an added benefit of being the leading points contender. It was the Lowe's car he wrecked at the track on the last go-around.

He may be but the Democrats would never nominate him. He is not very popular with the liberal wing of the party they recently rejected his pick for party chairman for a more activist person. This is one of the problem with the Democrats nationally they have a guy who win in a state like NC in 2004 he got an estimated 20% of the Republican vote and in turn the party punishes him for not being pure.

What an idiot. Saw this on News14 this morning. After wrecking a couple hundred thousand dollars last time on a track, who in their right mind would give him the same car but this time on the street?

Exactly what my husband said.
Was Easley a State Patrolman before he became political?

Damn, but it's hard to find Easley's party affiliation. You think it would be a bit more prominent if he were a Pubbie?

Today's PoliticalDiary from the WSJ had some fun with this. In case you didn't get it (IMHI, it's worth the $3.95/month), the last paragraph is priceless -
Kids, don't try this at home. Mr. Easley was driving an unlicensed, unregistered, 800-hp vehicle on city streets in front of an army of state troopers and sheriff's deputies -- just the sort of prank that would normally land most people in jail. Let it be an important reminder to keep all illegal street antics out of sight of the police.
