Gov. Mike Easley climbed into Hendrick Motorsports' No. 48 car at the Executive Mansion today, blasted out of the driveway and promptly lost control, missing a parked Mercedes sedan and a utility pole by mere inches. He crashed a retired No. 48 car into the wall at Lowe's Motor Speedway two years ago this week.Updated: 3:28 PM

Gov. Mike Easley is pushed from a curb after he lost control of a borrowed race car. The incident occurred seconds after he peeled out of the Executive Mansion driveway in downtown Raleigh. Easley narrowly missed crashing into a utility pole and a parked car.

Well while you're hoping for that I'll hope for him being cited for driving to endanger or reckless driving. Let's see who's wish gets fulfilled first!

BWAHAHAHA!!!!

What a loser. Sleazley's approval numbers must be falling so he's trying to muster up some more attention.

He drives about as well as he runs the state of NC.

ONZ! The Easley car crash was my first NC thread; we'd just accepted the job offer here!

IIRC, JohnnyZ suggested a church, and southernorthcarolina suggested Waxhaw. (We didn't go with either suggestion, but it was nice of them.)

Funny, I drove a NASCAR car once (courtesy of Fast Track) at Michigan International, and I somehow managed not to hit the wall.

Didn't even stall the engine, even though I'm a wussy automatic driver.

Had a good time, too. Maybe I'll have to go back and spend some more money to go fast sometime. :)

Methinks the gov is a loser.

Naw, Jr bump drafted Mikey, who gave the gov a pit maneuver. Rerun the video... see there, 48 didn't just turn into that curb, he had help :o)

I think you're overqualified to be the Governor of NC. :-)

Methinks the gov is a loser.

I wouldn't take this guy lightly. He ran 12 points ahead of Kerry and is very popular among conservative Democrats in eastern North Carolina who voted for Bush and Richard Burr. He's probably one of the best candidates for the Democrats in 2008.

"By all means then Governor, take it for another spin."

>>What a fool he is. I only wish I had seen this in person.<<

I don't approve of political jokes. I've seen too many of them get elected.

Thank you ever so much for the ping!
This is a hoot and a half!

"After three years of left turns," Hayes said, "I guess he chose the wrong time to turn right."

ROTFLOL! Hopefully, he will keep making "right" turns,
even if it kills him, figuratively speaking. ;o)

BTW, I will be making a lot of left turns in June.
And, all of them will be at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

I heart NASCAR!
