Howard Dean endorses Bernie Sanders' run for U.S. Senate

By EVAN LEHMANN, MediaNews Group Washington Bureau

WASHINGTON -- Breaking party lines, former Gov. Howard Dean said Monday he supports Rep. Bernard Sanders' bid for the U.S. Senate, saying the Independent makes a "strong candidate." "A victory for Bernie Sanders is a win for Democrats," Dean said in a telephone interview Monday.

Sen. James Jeffords, I-Vt., announced last month he would not seek re-election, clearing the way for what's expected to be a crowded race in fall 2006.

But Dean, chairman of the Democratic National Committee, added that his support is not unconditional.

"We've got a few things to work out with Bernie," he said, adding, "Bernie's not a Democrat."

Dean, the outspoken former presidential candidate whose aspirations for the White House abruptly ended during the primary more than a year ago, refused to describe Sanders' shortcomings in the eyes of Democrats.

"I'd rather tell him in person," Dean said.

Dean's first endorsment as Chairman of the DNC is to another party.

This is not good at all.

We cannot allow a socialist in the United States Senate.

We cannot allow a socialist in the United States Senate.

You mean we can't have a socialist Senator who actually admits to being a socialist.

"I'd rather tell him in person," Dean said.
"Bernie you'll have to take those pictures of Stalin and Castro off your wall if you want us to back you. They'll be a little hard to crop out of a campaign picture."

Good luck in finding a Republican that can beat him!

Sanders=socialist, Dean=socialist, looks like a same-sex marriage to me.

If I were a Dem, I would be so p.o.ed at Dean right now. What an a** to endorse a guy not even of his party---and he's its chairman!

What this says about the nature and future of the Democratic party is most telling.

What about the governor?

The White House was trying to get him in the race, but he's already announced he will not run.

This is typical of the democrats.

They don't believe in democracy, so their party officially endorses candidates years before the election, to cut off the chance of a primary.

If they HAVE a primary, like in NJ, and they don't like the outcome they force the candidate out to replace them.

They pay people to drop out of races, like in Pennsylvania where they forced a candidate out a day after she announced so they could run their hand-picked candidate.

We need strong primaries, so that democracy can work. Since so many people vote strictly party line (because of control of power in the house and senate) it is more important than ever that voters get a chance to chose between candidates in their own party in the primaries.

IN the past, the MSM would realise the benefit of primaries and encourage them. But now whenever there is a primary the MSM says it is a sign of weakness (more so with republicans than dems).

Democrats, the un-democratic party. They want judges to make laws, they want to filibuster so they don't have to vote, they count votes again and again until they get ahead, manufacturing results if they have to.

The run dead people for office. When the people in Mass. elected a republican governor, they spit on those voters by changing the law so the governor couldn't appoint a senate successor (they were afraid Kerry might win).

WHen the NJ governor was caught giving his gay adulterous lover a job he wasn't qualified for, he resigned, but NOT until it was too late to have a special election, instead wanting his own appointee in his place.
