What do the Liberals have to do to lose?

Woe, woe, Ontario

Monday, 30 May 2005 Mark Steyn

What do the Liberals have to do to lose? The rule that there’s no such thing as bad publicity is supposed to apply to soap actresses and rock stars, but look at the polls: Grits 32.5 per cent, Tories 30.5 per cent. And, even when you find a national poll showing a Conservative lead, break it down regionally: Liberals 38 per cent, Tories 34 per cent. That’s Ontario, which is the critical battleground, as we psephologists say. “Yours to Discover,” as the licence plates say. And what one mainly discovers after the most cursory of glances is that Paul Martin could be captured on DVD giving a Quebec advertising agency $20 million to supply him with coke and rent-boys and there would be a political earthquake in Ontario resulting in the shock poll result: Liberals 37.5 per cent, Conservatives 34.5 per cent.

As I wrote in the very first issue of the Western Standard, the Grits must occasionally wonder: where did we go right? And, while I’m reprising haunting refrains, as I wrote in our last issue: “The minute an election’s declared, the CBC and the Toronto Star will come on side and we’ll stop getting features on Adscam and start getting in-depth investigations on Tory plans to bring back back-street abortions and mandatory readings of Leviticus in gay bath-houses. And then some of those wobbly Liberal voters will wander home, in Ontario’s riding-rich 905-belt, in Quebec’s West Island, in the Maritimes . . .”

Woe, woe and thrice woe. As it turns out, they didn’t even wait for the writ to drop. CTV and The Globe And Mail commissioned a poll showing that 63 per cent of Canadians do not believe Paul Martin is telling the truth when he denies any involvement in Adscam. Let’s be clear on that: they’re not ...

It's not fair to post an excerpt from a PAY site!

But thanks, anyway!

Steyn rocks.

I know. Unfortunately, I don't have access to the full article, and I lack the patience to wait for two or three weeks til it's posted in full on steynonline.com. I was sort of hoping the completion angel would come along, and, you know.....

But you don't understand. Canada is a liberal country that needs more socialists, PC policies. It's irrelevant how those policies get in place as long as the liberal agenda is advanced. the people of Canada aren't stupid. They know that what the Liberals are doing is for the ultimate good of the country and the conservatives will destroy their progressive achievements. Canadians will not stand for this. They don't care about what the party does to get it's goals accomplished. It's for the greater good. The liberals will win another minoirty government and continue to champion equality for all and make the oppressive capitalists pay for the harm they have inflicted upon minorities and the environment.

< /sarcasm>

What this really does is show what the soul of the average person from Ontario is like: corrupt, just like the Liberals. They are one and the same.

My God, these Ontarian voters are probably with thicker heads than I have ever realized (well lest anyone says I'm anti-Canadian I must say my uncle lives in Canada and he, his wife, and the entire family of his wife, are all immigrant GTAers - ground zero of Lieberal base).

To our Australian friends, it is just like Steve Bracks's Victoria - equally socialist left.

Well, could Alberta decide to switch her alliegance from the Dominion of Canada to the Commonwealth of Australia? ;-)

You get like-minded states like Western Australia and Queensland (and possibly South Australia as well) - they could in any minute even more redneck than you. There will be no more Quebec, Ontario-clone (Victoria) is overshadowed by a more moderate state (New South Wales), and BC-clone (Tasmania) is the samllest state.

The only "rednecks" in Australia -- or in canada, come to that, are those who, like you and your canadian uncle, escaped FRom the "red" criminal gang that so squalidly besquats and bemanures Peking and so brutally enslaves the more than a billion effectively-middle-ages-dwelling Chinese and [Mostly] other Peoples and their stolen lands your family and your uncle's left behind!

Blessings -- B A
