Texas Freepers, It looks like we have one last chance to stop the payroll tax issue.
It is time for a Texas Tax Revolt!!!! (Make a phone call. E-Mails will just fall by the wayside)
As you have already heard in the news, the State Senate's version has a payroll tax in it. And unlike the House version, which makes the payroll tax "optional (we all know that just opens the door to make is full time), the Senate version looks to be mandated.
The following e-mail was sent to me, and it reminded me of something that every Texan should be doing. URGING EVERY ONE THEY KNOW TO CALL THEIR STATE SENATOR AND TELL THEM THAT THEY WILL NOT STAND FOR A STATE PAYROLL TAX.
I urge you all to get the word out to everyone you know. Tell the State Senate Republicans that if they are going to act like Democrats, then we'll replace them with Real Republicans in the primaries.
There are plenty who want to run against the current elected. They know, due to the tax push, that they have a chance.
Here is the body of the e-mail that is going around from one group of folks-
RE: Senate version of H.B. 3 (the tax bill) Okay everybody, here's the deal: H.B. 3 (the tax bill) came roaring out of the Senate Finance Committee on Friday afternoon and it is set for Senate debate tomorrow, May 10. It is not an easy document to get, but a quick and dirty reading this morning tells us that the bill: (1) would expand the franchise tax in all the usual ways to bring in every business entity other than a sole proprietorship (not new) (2) would establish the following formula for calculation of the franchise tax net profit + 15% of gross payroll x 4%. (Gross payroll determined according to page 1, line 1 of IRS form 940) UNLESS the constitutional amendment enacting a new statewide property tax is actually adopted by the people. In which case the payroll component would be based on 25% of gross payroll rather than 15%. (3) would increase the motor vehicle sales tax (and the general sales tax) rate from 6.25% to 6.5 % UNLESS the constitutional amendment enacting a new statewide property tax is actually adopted by the people. In which case the rate for both sales taxes would be increased to 6.75%. (4) would establish the presumed value tax. In committee, the votes were: Those FOR H.B. 3(i.e. the ones who voted AGAINST dealers and your employees) Steve Ogden (College Station) Judith Zaffirini (Laredo) Kip Averitt (Waco) Kim Brimer (Arlington) Robert Duncan (Lubbock) Kyle Janek (Houston) Florence Shapiro (Plano) Todd Staples (Palestine/Conroe) Royce West (Dallas) John Whitmire (Houston Tommy Willians (Conroe/Woodlands/Beaumont) Those (heroes) AGAINST H.B. 3 (i.e. the ones who voted FOR dealers and your employees) Gonzalo Barrientos (Austin) Bob Deuell (Greenville) Jane Nelson (Denton) Eliot Shapleigh (El Paso) This is bad. It is bad because it contains the jobs tax component that is simply not good for dealers, your employees, your customers, or for Texas. And remember, this is only the beginning. Once this baby gets on the books, all they have to do is ramp up the jobs tax rate any time they "need" more $$$. SO, for those of you who haven't yet done so, NOW IS YOUR MOMENT! Call your senator. Email your senator. (List attached) Let him/her know how you feel about this jobs tax component. Your message is simple: it will cost your employees their benefits, and in some cases you will have to lay off employees. This is anti-jobs and makes no sense in our current economy. Vote NO on H.B. 3. Be sure to identify yourself, your dealership, and how many employees will lose their jobs because of this vote. It doesn't matter where you are or the characteristics of your dealership: EVERY SENATOR SHOULD HEAR FROM DEALER S TODAY!!!!! Time is short and things down here are getting pretty weird. So please do not hesitate to call today. They will, listen.
Compared to Perry, Kinky is starting to look ok. That is so sad on so many levels.
I just called them, they sound so happy to hear from me (NOT).
I called Senators and Reps.....now I will take my punishment. What a sham.
Please call the Governor and have him veto this thing. Thanks.
Just talked to a staffer. Told her to let the Governor know that if he signs it, I, my wife, and everyone that I can talk into it will vote for whoever his opposition is, be it republican, libertarian, or even demoRAT.
Semper Fi
So he lied, just like a lot of rinos.
Give 'em he**, Mel !!:)
Perry has been a good, he is even trying to get property tax releif passed. We need property tax relief very badly here in Texas, property tazes are killing Texas home owners. Dewhurst on the other hand has been terrible on taxes and property tax relief. Dewhurst has got to go.
This message was sent to: the Gubner, Lt. Gubner, and my state senator, Kyle Janek, and state rep Bill Callegari.
I mean it too....I will work to defeat them. I have time, I am retired....and not opposed to wearing a sandwich sign at the corner of Fry Rd and I-10 for as long as it takes....
Add Senator Mike Jackson to the list of RINOS. He voted for the tax increases early this morning.
*&^@)!&#&%#(&@%!#(%
I despise RINOs more than Democrats.....Please turn away...gotta spit at a snake...a skunk....
Thanks for posting this. I contacted my State Senator yesterday and a fat lot of good it did with the dang thing now being passed.
I just contacted the Governor and asked him to veto it, and I recontacted my Senator to let him know how INCENSED I am to have been misled into thinking that he is actually a Republican since he just helped pass a bill that, however you look at it, increases State taxes by STEALTH, wrongly and unnecessarily expands "services" provided by the (nanny) State, expands the bureaucracy of the State, and expands the intrusion of the State into the lives of We the People.
I am WAY more pissed about this than if Democrats had done it, because at least we already know that they lie at will to promote unAmerican government. When the Republicans put in place a deceitful law completely at odds with the mandate under which they were elected, it is nothing less than a stab in the back by people you thought were friendly.
I will be actively campaigning against my Republican State Senator at any future election for any office because of this betrayal.
Thanks for the earlier ping Meek. My husband is so disgusted with Perry that he said he won't vote for him again, just not vote.
Perry's poll ratings are way down and his 'super highway' is causing a lot of discontent. I don't like Hutchison but would never vote for a dem so hope Perry straightens up!!
After several years as Councilmember and then as a popular Mayor, I was burned out, and had too many miles on me.
Following this, the Senators should gut the TEA, TNRCC, and several other agencies that drain taxpayer money as in protected by monstrous, well dug in lobbyists. JUST GUT THEM.
Perry has been a good low profile Governor, and Kay Bailey will be a first class rino if she beats him.
No, you're not the only one.
ALL politicians remind me of wild-eyed alcholics in a room full of booze! And the sheeple just keep paying for more 6 packs and jugs....
Last time I looked, you have tons of company out in Katy, FRiend. Lots of FReepers that I met at the recount rallies.
Dang. We need to find a NEW crop, I'd say, then. :)
Honorable Governor Rick Perry,
I am writing to tell you how extremely displeased I am with our State Legislature and the passage of the Tax Reform Bill, also known as HB 3. I thought Republicans stood for lower taxes and greater economic freedom for the citizens of Texas but apparently I am gravely mistaken. Passage of this bill it is an absolute slap in the face to all the men and women that supported candidates who campaigned on a platform which included fighting for jobs and promoting Texas' economy. The new tax structure does the exact opposite--it will cost jobs and destroy our economy. I strongly urge you to veto this bill when it reaches your desk.
The last thing I want to see is the return of Democrats to the governor's mansion or gaining seats in the Legislature, but the Republican's certainly are not helping themselves maintain power by turning on their base. We will not forget on election day.
Sincerely,
Rick Perry has turned out to be less than a great governor.
Damn the state Payroll Tax.
Tax and spend, when does it stop.
