My reaction to Leahy is pretty much the same as Vice President Cheney's.

I am with you, Bahbah, if Frist even sniffs at this Lott "deal", he is not only a "dead" presidential candidate, but he is gone as a Majority leader, I would think!!! If I were one of the actual Republican Republicans, like Jeff Sessions, John Cornyn, George Allen, John Kyl, I would have to think seriesly about making a lot of changes!!!

It appears that Reid and Leahy are tying to make a deal with themselves. Frist opened the session asking for votes on ALL of the nominees. Then Reid and Leahy were basically talking to each other.

Cornyn spoke for 15 minutes on Priscilla Owen as a matter of 'morning business' and Leahy will get a mathcing 15. He is now talking about how miserable the Bush presidency is--how everything has gone up (debt, unemployment, price of gas, etc.) but the percent of judges blocked has gone down.

What a crock of crud. No deal appears to have been made folks--looks like the Pubs are still standing tall.

If Frist imploded, then he needs to be removed. He's obviously does not know what he is doing. The track record speaks volumes.

Any future GOP fundraising letters (and they are legion) will go immediately in File 13.

Huge (or hugh) sigh of relief. I thought my head was coming off when I read about the "deal" in Roll Call. Someone there must have it in for me :)

let's see how it plays out, which judges get to the full senate. pulling the trigger on the fillibuster thing is risky - we might not have the votes, etc. we could always get some judges through now, and save the rules change vote if the Dems block a SCOTUS nominee who would otherwise be confirmed by the full senate.

Not sure, I guess they're still in limbo until Frist call for a ruling from the chair.

Noooooo.

We fight for every Judge.

Screw the RINOS in the Senate.

If this goes thru I will never give another dime to a Republican.

This is just like when this came up two weeks ago. Someone floats a rumor that a 'deal' is made and everyone freaks out. Then when the cameras are rolling, it is the Dems bending over backwards trying to show they are willing to 'compromise'.

While I do believe the Pubs will grant some minor face-saving 'deal' to the Dems, they will avert the 'nuclear' option and get votes on ALL the nominees, while still reserving the option to go nuclear if the Dems try this again.

Frist basically said the 'judges will get a vote.' Maybe didn't say "all," but that was clearly inferred.

Does Lott have the power and authority to make a deal for the Senate Republicans?

Is this the compromise Rush was talking about? That will take Brown's nomination off the table?

WHAT??? The GOP will forfeit its rightful support if it abandons Janice Rogers Brown--the most important non-SCOTUS appt. in a generation.

I'm not real sure

But from what I gather .. Lott is going behind Frist back and trying to make a deal .. that the pubbies will give up a few judges if the Dems don't filibuster

If this deal is true?

Trent Lott can Kiss my Irish Butt!
