Since "Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.", I and others think it's a good idea to centralize what the goes on in the Senate (or House).
So if you see something happening on the Senate/House floor and you don't want to start a new thread to ask if anyone else just heard what you heard, you can leave a short note on who said what and about what and I'll try and find it the next day in THE RECORD. Or if you see a thread that pertains to the Senate, House, or pretty much any GOV'T agency please link your thread here.
If you have any suggestions for this thread please feel free to let me know.
Here's a few helpful links.
C-SPAN what a great thing. Where you can watch or listen live to most Government happenings.
C-SPAN 1 carries the HOUSE.
C-SPAN 2 carries the SENATE.
C-SPAN 3 (most places web only) carries a variety of committee meetings live or other past programming.
OR FEDNET has online feed also.
A great thing about our Government is they make it really easy for the public to research what the Politicians are doing and saying (on the floor anyway).
THOMAS where you can see a RECORD of what Congress is doing each day. You can also search/read a verbatim text of what each Congressmen/women or Senator has said on the floor or submitted 'for the record.' [This is where the real juicy stuff can be found.]
Also found at Thomas are Monthly Calendars for the Senate Majority and Senate Minority
And Monthly Calendars for the House Majority and Roll Call Votes can be found here.
THE WAR DEPARTMENT (aka The Dept. of Defense)
They really would LOVE to have one man one vote, wouldn't they?
Hillary veers left on even-numberrd days, goes right on dd numbered days..
YEP
They've been pushing for this since 2000

Yeah, I saw that in another thread earlier today.
Rush is mentioning how yesterday Leahy read an article that compared Judge Janice Brown to terrorists
No
The Dems are playing an old game
It's the VRWC again
We are all HARD HARD HARD FAR RIGHT WINGERS
Chuckie Schummer used the same line earlier
I am not kidding re: Sen. Lott---that was what was posted by a freeper that was listening to Tony Snow's show---I can't hear Tony until 7:00 tonight on tape delay, so I am taking the freeper's word for it on the thread---
I turned to C-span a second ago and there was a LIVE presser with Sen. Frist and one of the questions was, "If the dems refuse to let all of the nominations get an up or down vote, will that trigger the nuclear option"-- get this, Frist hesitated and then said NO...he was talking also like Lott and Nelson's compromise plan is A-OK with him and that any and all compromises would be considered...
Folks, the GOP just lost all credibility IMHO
Please tell me that isn't true....
I distinctly read that Frist has said that ALL judge nominees should get an up or down vote. PLEASE don't tell me that he's reneged....again. My checkbook will be closed to the RNC until these weak-kneed GOP senators realize that WE voters who put them there expect RESULTS.
I got to the presser late, so I don't know what Frist's actual statement was---
They were asking questions when I turned it on, and there were a lot of questions that I couldn't hear, but I would characterize all of Frist's answers as a lot less than emphatic re: making sure all of Bush's nominees get up or down votes...
He kept hesitating and thinking and then coming out with some sort of "well, when you try to take all sides into consideration and when you talk to the different Senators, in talking to Harry Reid, who is a good leader, ...."blah, blah, blah...
Every single answer started with some kind of "diplomat speak"---and my heart sank further and futher with every answer---BUT, when I heard someone specifically ask if he backed Lott's compromise (I knew that Lott had gone off on Tony Snow's show today and said he didn't care what the GOP thought), I thought he would say that unless the compromise included an up or down vote, he couldn't back it....well, he said YES he was interested---then he went on to say what I posted on the previous post....
If I was in the mood to make excuses for Frist, (which I am not), I would say that he KNOWS that with Lott acting the way he is and the other RINOS in the party, he won't have the required votes so he has no other choice than to compromise. BUT, I think just the opposite might be true.
If Frist came out and said we ARE going to vote for the Constitutional rules and Bush's nominees will get an up or down vote, then some of the RINOS would not want their names on a roll call vote going against their constitutents and the President....
But I'm guessing that Frist is playing an old game by keeping all options open.. because once he does commit to the constitutional option .. all heck will break lose with the media/press/dems
Though I can understand his reasoning there
I also have to say that this BS needs to come to a head one way or another
Because they are losing the base .. and the base is NOT the hard right wingers
Yes, I agree with you about what Frist was doing today---
That is why I would NOT make a good politician...I could not be so accomodating with a smile on my face! LOL
Like you said, though, the need to get it going, because nothing else of consequence will probably get done until it is over....
Of course, I know that Frist wants this Emer. Supplemental to be voted on today, and the Transportation Bill in the next few days, but considering that the Reps. in the Senate agreed late yesterday to ADD a whole lot more money to the Trans. Bill, AGAINST the wishes of Bush, I wouldn't be too concerned if the bill did get stalled...
Well, it seems that is good news, because I can't imagine this only getting done for one---seems like once they "break the filibuster rule" for one nominee that had previously been denied a vote....the dems wouldn't have any arguments against the rest....either the rules supports all getting a vote or none, IMHO.
Bryd is up lecturing about Iraq and the troops
Good heavens, what do they have to do to get him out on the floor...wind him up and whisper in his ear to say "I support our troops" over and over.
