Dismay at US Koran 'desecration'
BBC ^ | 8 May 2005 | BBC News - World Edition

Posted on 05/08/2005 4:42:36 AM PDT by Cornpone

Pakistani officials say they are "deeply dismayed" over reports that the Koran was desecrated at the US detention facility in Guantanamo Bay. The latest edition of the American Newsweek magazine said such tactics were used to rattle suspects.

It says that US personnel on one occasion flushed a copy of Islam's most holy book "down the toilet".

Pakistan, a conservative Muslim nation, is also a key US ally in its war against terrorism.

'Highly objectionable'

Pakistani foreign office spokesman, Jalil Abbas Jilani, told the AFP news agency Pakistan was also concerned about "the highly objectionable and regrettable treatment meted out to the detainees at the Guantanamo Bay detention centre".

Mr Jilani said the reported act of sacrilege had shocked people of every faith around the world.

"The government of Pakistan condemns the incident and demands that an inquiry should be conducted to bring to justice the perpetrators of this shameful act," he said.

Insulting the Koran and Islam's Prophet Mohammed is regarded as blasphemy and punishable by death in Pakistan.

In an interview last week with the BBC's Haroon Rashid, Abdul Rahim Muslim Dost, an Afghan prisoner recently released from the Cuban detention centre, said a number of Arab prisoners had still not spoken to their investigators after three years to protest at the desecration of the Koran by guards.

Mr Dost also said inmates' beards were shaved and the prisoners were shouted at during interrogations.

The US is holding about 520 inmates at Guantanamo Bay, many of them al-Qaeda and Taleban suspects captured in Pakistan and Afghanistan following the 11 September 2001 attacks in the US.

But even then, Hitler was Christian.

Hitler was born a Christian, he was not a practicing Christian. As a matter of fact, while the Muffti of Jerusalem was visiting, Hitler told him he respected Islam and wanted to instigate it in Germany, since Christianity was to soft with the love thy neighbor and Christ was a Jew. Islam was just violent enough for Hitler. Furthermore, it was the mission of the SS to rid Europe of Christianity also. How did the follow on SS divisions know where the lead Hitler Body Guard SS Division go during the Blitzekreig in France? They followed the crushed shrines and burnt churches.

You have a lot to learn before making such comments.

So perhaps you can then understand that most Muslims do not want to be associated with the fanatical Muslims doing the killing.

The difference is, the Koran instructs to kill. Will you now deny it and force me to post what has been posted here on FR a thousand times? You're about 4 years to late to pull this line.

By the way, I'd like to know, when is Islam going to apologize or pay repirations for stealing the Middle East from Christianity, followed by Asia Minor, parts of the Caucuses, North Africa? When is Islam going to pay for 400 years of the Blood Tax upon the Balkins? Oh, that's right, never, they still consider it their holy mission. I'm sure you've heard of the Dar El Harb? The House of War? The one that all none Islamic nations belong to?

While not all muslims are fanatics or evil, the faith as a whole is a blood thirsty yoke upon the human spirit that in its time burnt the Library of Alexandria, turned Sumeria, Persia and Egypt from 3 of the richest lands in the world into cess pools and proudly named a mountain range the Hindu Kush (the Mountains of Dead Hindus).

So tell me some more stories.

Allied forces.Americans bombed to dust the Catholic monastic complex of Monte Cassino in a mistaken view it would help against the Nazis.

Did the Pope declare a Crusade against America for that act? Did Catholics riot in the streets?

Why did the Christian nations allow Japan to massacre the Chinese and Koreans? (and for that matter allow Hitler to slaughter the Jews?)

We "Allowed" Hitler to slaughter the Jews? We "Allowed" it? Hmm. What do you suggest we should have done? Used the power of international shame against him? Told him not to do it? Declared war maybe?

I am just curious about that particular phraseology. Can you expand on that?

The Nazi extermination policy only was formulated when war was already declared. The fog of war was what allowed the holocaust to happen. The Japanese were slammed hard for what they did in China, with America imposing trade sanctions which of course caused the Japanese to carry out Pearl Harbor.

I could be wrong, but I believe we bombed Monte Cassino to dust because it sat in the high point in the middle of a strategic valley and was occupied by the Germans who directed murderous fire on our men from there.

The mistake was that we thought strategic bombers could pulverize it into submission.

Muslims and leftist democrats... Similar in so many ways. They're a bunch of cry babies, who accuse everyone else of exactly what they do.

They're always the victims.

Trade sanctions "caused" Japan to carry out Pearl Harbor. That is like saying "your face hitting my fist caused skinned knuckles."

(snip)

In the 1930s, the fascist regimes that arose in Italy and Germany sought greater stakes in the Middle East, and began courting Arab leaders to revolt against their British and French custodians. Among their many willing accomplices was Jerusalem Mufti Haj Amin el-Husseini, who fled Palestine after agitating against the British during the Arab Revolt of 1936-39. He found refuge in Iraq – another British mandate – where he again topped the British most wanted list after helping pull the strings behind the Iraqi coup of 1941. The revolt in Baghdad was orchestrated by Hitler as part of a strategy to squeeze the region between the pincers of Rommel's troops in North Africa, German forces in the Caucuses and pro-Nazi forces in Iraq. However, in June 1941 British troops put down the rebellion and the Mufti escaped via Tehran to Italy and eventually to Berlin.

Once in Berlin, the Mufti received an enthusiastic reception by the "Islamische Zentralinstitut" and the whole Islamic community of Germany, which welcomed him as the "Führer of the Arabic world." In an introductory speech, he called the Jews the "most fierce enemies of the Muslims" and an "ever corruptive element" in the world.

Husseini soon became an honored guest of the Nazi leadership and met on several occasions with Hitler. He personally lobbied the Führer against the plan to let Jews leave Hungary, fearing they would immigrate to Palestine. He also strongly intervened when Adolf Eichman tried to cut a deal with the British government to exchange German POWs for 5000 Jewish children who also could have fled to Palestine. The Mufti's protests with the SS were successful, as the children were sent to death camps in Poland instead. One German officer noted in his journals that the Mufti would liked to have seen the Jews "preferably all killed." On a visit to Auschwitz, he reportedly admonished the guards running the gas chambers to work more diligently. Throughout the war, he appeared regularly on German radio broadcasts to the Middle East, preaching his pro-Nazi, anti-Semitic message to the Arab masses back home.

During the Second World War in Yugoslavia, many Muslim clerics in Bosnia and Kosovo were willing accomplices in the genocide of the nation's Serbian, Jewish and Roma population. From 1941 until 1945, the Nazi-installed regime of Ante Pavelic in Croatia carried out some of the most horrific crimes of the Holocaust, killing over 800,000 Yugoslav citizens - 750,000 Serbs, 60,000 Jews and 26,000 Roma. In these crimes, they were helped by Muslim fundamentalists in Bosnia and Kosovo who were openly supported by the Palestinian Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, Haj Amin al-Husseini. Husseini openly encouraged Muslims to join Nazi units that would be later implicated in genocide and crimes against humanity - the infamous Hanjar (or Handschar) 13th Waffen SS division..." read more

You are mistaken. The Germans in fact were not occupying or using Monte Cassino at all but the Americans mistakenly thought they were.

After the bombing the Germans did indeed move into the ruins and the ruins proved ideal defensivive positions so the bombing by the allies made their offensive position worse and the German defensive position better.

No disrespect intended, but the US did EXACTLY what it morally should have done, imposing sanctions on Japan for it's policy in China.
