Allergy Alert:Need Freeper Advice On Seasonal Allergies (Dyin Over Here)
My Nose,My Throat | 5-7-05 | my favorite headache

I never thought I would be doing a vanity on this but here it goes.

I am interested in knowing how people cope with Spring allergies. I have never had them until this year apparently. I have had a sore throat now going into day 18,I have seen the doctor twice where once gave me Ketex and decongestion meds and those did nothing,so they ruled out the common cold or flu or any bacterial infection.

My throat is still red,I still am congested,I have regular acid reflux (gerd) to be exact so when I sleep at night all of the congestion and post-nasal drip about drowns me. I am miserable to say the least.

I feel physically fine half of the day and then all of a sudden it feels like I have zero energy. I wake up and my eyes are dry as can be. So I went back to the doctors yesterday and they believe it is really bad allergies and want to put me on some kind of steroids which I am not crazy about. I usually stick to eastern medicine i.e. acupuncture and that sort of thing but even that is not working. My blood work came back fine so I know it is not anything serious of nature causing it.

I just need some kind of relief and remedy as I have never had Spring or any kind of airborne allergy. Supposedly the Pollen and Oak count is the highest its ever been in Central Florida mainly due to the 3 hurricanes that came through my town this year and what it did to the trees, everglades, and ocean air flow.

HELP! Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

The important ingredient is the honey. If you can find local honey (within 10 miles or within the same climate/flora zone) you will get protection from allergic reactions to local flora. (It may be too late for this year, though.)

This has been studied extensively in Germany, and the mechanism is not fully understood. (If your allergies are to mold, mildew, etc. the honey thing will not help.)

WebMD is a commercial site. They downplay common sense alternatives to pill-popping.

Mr. Ellis, you are by far the most experienced allergy sufferer on this board, and I think you have posted the best advice so far.

Kudos!

Good information,...almost everybody I know in So CA over the past three weeks has come down with something with the same symptoms, while some moms have been taking their youngest ones to the hospital for pneumonia like symptoms.

Seems to last 4-5 days,..1st day, just a deep sore throat, 2nd day, in the lungs and some phlegm,...seems to accompany a slight fever, maybe a degree at most, sluggish feeling and tired,..symptoms seem to be more the result of postnasal drip and drainage in the throat. Doesn;t seem to be highly contagious, but after 3 weeks of observation of others, those in closest proximity to others with the same symptoms seem to pick them up about 3 days to 8 days later.

Might just be pollen count. I havn't seen any advisories on a particular flavor of flu, though. It's unlike most hayfever symptoms I've ever had in that it does seem to be deeper chest rooted.

Let’s revive this one. Today’s horror story piece is about Louisiana, use of neti pots and a brain eating amoeba that lives in tap water in some places. .............. NOTE: I don’t know that this is the case, but when they reduced the levels of arsenic allowed in tap water, we started getting more of these crazy reports. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2074957/Deaths-brain-eating-amoeba-linked-sinus-remedy-colds.html

I’ve seen this in other articles - thanks for bringing it up. IMO it’s insanity to use tap water straight for any purpose whatsoever, even tooth brushing. If I lived in a place with tap water I’d filter it even for showering. Blech!! Especially not for doing Neti. I tell all clients that they should use only purified or filtered water for Neti. I prefer Berkefelds but Katadyns are good and I’m sure there are other good ones. Brita water would probably be useless. One needs a good quality one. Imagine drinking water that has those things in it!! (shudder....)
