Dr. James Dobson, 'evangelical devil'

The elections of 2004 taught America some very clear lessons. The most obvious, perhaps, is just how much the American left hate people of faith true faith, genuine faith. And the ones they hate most of all are evangelical Christians. And the one they hate most out of that group is Dr. James Dobson.
Thursday's edition of the Denver Post was particularly ripe with quotes from the left as to their true feelings:
"If one thing makes people uncomfortable, it is the manipulation of religious faith for political gain," said Ralph Neas, president of People for the American Way. "What James Dobson has been doing is tantamount to religious McCarthyism."
Religious McCarthyism?
Well you know what that means!
Dr. Dobson doesn't believe that "all roads lead to God, or peace, or love." Dr. Dobson actually might believe in such a thing as absolute truth. Dr. Dobson doesn't seem to have a "go with the flow" mentality. "If it feels good, do it" isn't advice that he gives to people. And as a result, when he speaks about what is good for a family or an individual it comes from a place that is genuine and truly based on what is best for them. Homosexual activists have grown to hate this about Dr. Dobson. So have serial adulterers, pornography producers and distributors, and people in government positions that enjoy all of the above.
Recently, the always-boiling anger toward Dobson and his organization "Focus on the Family" has even become more intense. Activist protestors have been arrested outside the Colorado Springs headquarters. And on a day when Dr. Dobson is most visible to the nation, "The National Day of Prayer," the venom was served up on the op-ed pages.
Since secular groups have been particularly ineffective at getting Dobson to change course, the media has begun to turn to a new group of critics: "the liberal Christians."
"When Dr. Dobson transferred his authority as a facilitator of healthy families to being a prognosticator about partisan politics, he brought along with him many people whose trust had been won in one realm that is now being played upon in another realm," said "Reverend" Welton Gaddy, of the Interfaith Alliance.
First, to the point being made by the "Reverend." It would be completely disingenuous for someone like Dobson who is advocating for the cause of healthy families not to address the greater societal factors that lead to the breakdown of the family. Adultery, pornography, homosexuality are all actions and institutions that have begun to decimate the family structure. Those who have championed these and other immoral behaviors have done so through the use of government. Politics must therefore become part of the discussion by Dr. Dobson. To assert falsely, as the "Rev." Gaddy does that it is a move to acquire political power is to deny that the eventual outcome that Dr. Dobson seeks is still that of a healthy family.
But to the issue of this new idea of a "liberal Christian" ...
Pardon the obvious, but there is no such thing.
Just because a person calls himself a Christian, but violates the tenets of Christ, violates the spoken authoritative words of Christ, violates the written instructions of Christ, violates the nature and character of Christ, that doesn't make him a "Christian." He is, instead, someone who wishes to be called a Christian, but who in reality wants to do whatever he jolly well pleases.
The left has figured out that if someone will call himself a Christian, but go against every basic fundamental of Christianity, then the media can use that personality as a wedge against the myriads of Christians in the nation. Hence the scorn being heaped upon Dr. Dobson.
It won't end anytime soon. To liberals, anyone who takes on the name, characteristics and behavior of a Christian especially an evangelical should expect the worst. Because to liberals, true Christians like Dr. James Dobson are really just "evangelical devils."

Thanks for posting this. Great read.
What exactky WAS the attack on Spongebob? Or was it a mere comment, that the left jumped on and blew up and stretched out of proportion to fit their agenda. I have heard allegations and ineuendo, but I have yet to hear the actual comment, or read the actual transcript of said comment. And since all I hear about Dr. Dobson and Spongebob is rhetoric, I feel pretty safe to assume that the left don't really have grounds for anything. But of course in liberal theology, if you say something enough times, or loud enough, or angry enough, it makes it true.
And many on the left are disappointed that the pope is a catholic.
Dobson is my hero.
However, hatred from the world is a badge of honor. Two verses pop into mind. In this world you will receive tribulation... and all who live Godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. Persecution is a promise to claim!
The left would like you believe that the attack was against poor Bob but Dobson has made it very clear that his disagreement was with the agenda of the people that were using Bob.
Dobson is a true American hero. He fights for good things and his influence on families has been wonderful. That the left hates such a man shows who they are and what it is we fight.
What you are describing is how the liberal media tried to portray it. You were the one fooled.
Thanks.
great post, my brother works at Focus, you should hear all the bomb threats they receive from the purveyors of tolerance"
What people like this want is the absence of religion from the state, not the supposed seperation of the church from the state. My religious beliefs are a part of who I am, they cannot be seperated from me.
Since this guy (and others like him) don't like the beliefs of others, they try to censore them by invoking their mantra of "seperation of church and state". Well the seperation of church and state didn't exist until about 50 years ago. And it was nothing but the opinion of an activist judge.
Our forefathers, in there wisdom, saw what an established religion of the land, would mean to others who saw things a little bit differently. There thoughts would be stifled, if not attacked.
Well thats exactly what has happened in our country. Some say we are a Christian nation, when in reality, our national religion is secular humanism. And anybody who differs from the secular humanist must be stifled, if not attacked.
What the seperationofchurchandstateophiles fail to understand, or admit, is that no matter what ones religious views, or lack thereof, WE ALL are on equal ground as to how our government runs our country. My neighbor might not agree with my views, heck, he might downright hate them. And vice-a-versa. But we both have equal rights in not only proclaiming them, but also promoting them.
The only so called "McCarthyism", is by those who would try to seperate someones religious beliefs from the public forum.
Are you a troll? Seems like it.
Just keep stirring the pot. If you're looking to start something, you will.
It's not just the left that hates good folk like Dobson.
The problem with your premis is that allowing religious expression is tantamount to establishing a religion. And by so doing we must give everybody equal time. You wish to seperate a persons beliefs, so that nothing offends someone else. But by disallowing a person to voice an opinion, or act according to his beliefs, is destroying a persons constitutional rights.
If you don't like my views, don't vote for me. If I don't like your views I won't vote for you. And we are both free to rally the troops to our messages.
The first (I think) amendment guarantees that the State will not disallow the practice of religion, and also guarantees the State will not set up one religion as sponsored by the State.
We are a representative Republic, which means that from the beginning those who had religious beliefs in america could gain representation through the elected Government.
That's really the whole ball of wax, and it's not a complicated discussion.
