Probably to our "Friends and Allies" the French.
Floyd Schwieger, a retired minister and board member of the Pryor Mountain Wild Mustang Center in Lovell, Wyoming, supports the new law and the government's effort to reduce the horse population. Sending excess animals to slaughter is fine, he says, as long as it's done without cruelty.
"I would like to see the federal government simply have their own slaughterhouse," he said. The meat could "be given to the poor and needy people around the world, compliments of the United States government, as a means to help alleviate the suffering in the world."
First paragraph good, think guy has potential, second one not so good.
The French eat horses...don't they?
Personally I find eating horseflesh, dogflesh or catflesh disgusting and unnatural.
I prefer beef, venison, pork, wild boar, bison, poultry and perhaps a liberal or two when the opportunity presents itself.
There are still horse meat shops in Paris. The French have been eating horses for years.
Horse-eating surrender monkeys.
Yeah..second paragraph not so good..
It would be much cheaper for the government to simply take
10% of whatever anyone earns and just give it away to those
foreigners or illegal aliens more needy than the people who actually earned the money.
Better yet, just give guns to the poor so they can slaughter their own. Cut out the middle man.

Ok, question.
How legitimate is this story?
I just did a few searches for Cavel International in DeKalb, Illinois
The only sites I'm pulling are PETA and PETA related domains.
Of course this story is suppose to incite rage.
But that is also how PETA functions.
How can we verify any of this out side of PETA?
Sell it to the highest bidder on behalf of the taxpayer. I was fed horsemeat when I was a student in France. It is tough.
I'm reading a mail server account now that claims the company was burning to the ground.

Osmond voted against the ban and said she spoke with officials from the Department of Agriculture who had nothing but good things to say about the Cavel International, a DeKalb-based slaughter house that ships horses overseas. The business burned to the ground and will reopen soon.<<<<<<
Trying to find out now if it is reopened.
If they bought the horses legally, it's their business what they do with them.

Tend to agree with you but did you ever wonder why. Why is it called cat food and dog food instead of cat feed and dog feed? It is still called horse feed. Ate some (horse) on the airline flying into Mongolia once..it was ok.
I have a problem with this program. Why is the government selling these horses for $1 a piece?
There are too many horses on BLM land. The population needs to be managed.
The horses are offered up for adoption first. If they are not adopted, they should be auctioned off.
Beats me. It was in the National Geographic Web Site.
I read the article and "horse meat" plus "sold to foreign consumers" and our "Friends and Allies" the French immediately came to mind in one lighting like chain of connections.
Not questioning you. I would post from National Geographic too.
PETA just always makes me suspicious. I can't think of one good cause they have ever been involved in that didn't have another motive.
BLM's website is offline too:
http://www.nifc.gov/offline/
"The BLM External Web presence has been disconnected while we make modifications to the site that will enhance the security of our Web sites."
Ford Motor Company, maker of the Mustang car, then paid $20,000 to buy the horses back from Cavel and a horse broker.
Now that's a cool gesture no matter what.
"Why is it called cat food and dog food instead of cat feed and dog feed?"
I guess there are a lot of oddities in any language.
Like "How are you doing?" as a greeting. How are you doing what??? (In German it's "Wie geht's?" Which means "How is it going with you?" - How is WHAT going with me?)
"Take care" as a parting statement. Take care of what?
"Como se llama Usted?" meaning "What do you call yourself" for "What's your name?" in Spanish. What I call myslef isn't important. Its what other people call me.
Languages can be weird.
PETA's problem is they can recognize a problem but then they come up with a hair-brained assinine solution to it.
Like equating people with animals.
Animals should be treated humanely, but they aren't humans.
"The BLM External Web presence has been disconnected while we make modifications to the site that will enhance the security of our Web sites."
Maybe someday we will read "Due to technical difficulties the government has been shut down." and we'll all be better off for it.
