How legitimate is this story?
I just did a few searches for Cavel International in DeKalb, Illinois
The only sites I'm pulling are PETA and PETA related domains.
Of course this story is suppose to incite rage.
But that is also how PETA functions.
How can we verify any of this out side of PETA?
Beats me. It was in the National Geographic Web Site.
I read the article and "horse meat" plus "sold to foreign consumers" and our "Friends and Allies" the French immediately came to mind in one lighting like chain of connections.
Well, back in the late 80s, early 90s, there was a west coast meat packing plant that had a contract to supply US Military bases with beef - they substituted horse on several occasions, and finally got busted for it.
Speaking as one of the GIs who ate horse, and didn't realize it, I have to say that I never noticed a difference.
