Religion and Politics Clash Religion and politics clash over a local church's declaration that Democrats are not welcome.
East Waynesville Baptist asked nine members to leave. Now 40 more have left the church in protest. Former members say Pastor Chan Chandler gave them the ultimatum, saying if they didn't support George Bush, they should resign or repent. The minister declined an interview with News 13. But he did say "the actions were not politically motivated." There are questions about whether the bi-laws were followed when the members were thrown out.

I have a feeling this will affect the church's tax-exempt status. You can hint all you like about which party your parishoners should support, but when you get explicit about it, you cross a line.
To: Abathar
I think this "pastor" forgot what his mission was.

....hummm...I'm not real sure about this, but didn't the Catholic church dictate to its congregation about the Vatican's strict policy against birth control?

Hey, I thought it was fine to tell Satan to "get thee behind me". ;-)

I think you are right - about 40 other members quit in protest over this, and if I am not mistaken the IRS will be notified before I can type this.
I stumbled on this over at the DUmmies site (I slipped on my mental hazmat suit this morning) and boy did this story stir up the hornets nest over there.

Anyone who's read the bible should see that liberalism and Christianity contradict one another and one cannot be both.
This Pastor rocks.
To: Abathar
Sounds fishy to me...like some disgruntled folk, unhappy with a pastor's political views went to complain to him. He probably told them, "You're free to leave if you don't like what I'm saying."
Then, they leave, and say the pastor told them to go.
There is NO fight like a church fight, and I bet that is what happened. Typically, the press will find a way to blame the conservative point of view.

So this is what they mean by
Politically Correct..... :o)

This Pastor rocks.
So I guess Rudy G. and George Pataki would be okey dokey for this Pastor, just because they aren't Democrats. I think the rocks are in this guy's head.

And in the hills of North Carolina, there is a Baptist church at just about every road off the highway. Half of them came into existance from just those kind of fights too!

I've got a problem with this...as much as I can't stand most (if not all) democratic politicians, kicking people who affiliate with the party-of-whiners out of church is the most asinine, cruel and unchristian.
