Representative Chris CANNON (R)
Utah, District 3
2004 Score - 100
Previous Year's Score - 92
Lifetime Score - 97
Years of Service - 8
Cannon is hardly a Socialist....
To: No Longer Free State
"...Cannon is the one who doesn't uphold Republican values..."
The best defense is a good offense.
And Cannon is pretty offensive.
To: mondoman
The debate began with a third panelist, Rep. Luis Gutierrez, D-Ill., denouncing unnamed people he said were exploiting the immigration issue because of bigotry, hatred and prejudice. There they go again, when faced with good arguments and there's nothing else to say....scream bigotry, hated and prejudice.
We need to let this Representative know what we think. Who has a link to email this character?

Thanks for posting this. I have some family members in Utah -- don't know if they're in the 3rd District. But I'll be doing some heavy lobbying AGAINST Cannon with my family. I can guarantee they will vote AGAINST him if he continues to represent illegals at the expense of the citizens in the 3rd District. It appears that Cannon's first obligation is $$$$$ anyway -- exploiting illegals benefits shareholders and business owners, certainly

Chris Cannon is one of the best friends that an illegal alien can have in Congress. And Luis Gutierrez is just as racist as Robert Byrd is.
To: mondoman
"I don't think there's a place in the Republican Party for racism, for xenophobia, for ideas that are fundamentally un-American," Cannon said. Adopting the Dem tactics?

I'm a strongly pro-immigrant libertarian GOP activist. There are several pro-immigrant factions in the GOP big tent.
I'm in a faction with libertarians like Eric Dondero who trust the free market.
Dubya (and my local GOP leader) are compassionate social conservatives. They are pro-immigrant for the same reason they are pro-life.
A third faction are the Mercantilists whose companies benefit from a supply of labor that cannot be found without immigrants.
The Roveites don't want to alienate a voting block. Since my local compassionate conservative GOP leader and I have done very well with the local Hispanic and Indian vote, maybe we have two reasons.
And then there are the moderates in the GOP who are afraid someone will call them
racist if they don't support immigration. They don't have the courage of any particular conviction.
Only a few in the last group would not welcome Tancredo in the big tent. We disagree on a point of policy. I don't like my tax money going to farm subsidies but I'm not trying to kick those misguided farm-state politicians out of the party. I'd only kick out the corrupt ones in the Illinois-bi-partisan-combine who line their pockets with taxpayer money.
It could be noted that those favoring more restrictions on immigration also probably have factions. A few are blatantly racist. But most are just nervous that the invisible hand of capitalism will not work and fear that the sky is falling.

10 years from now, if the Republicans are still the majority party, they will have only Tancredo to thank.
Immigration is a HUGE issue in this country, and it cuts across all parities and all demographics. While the Republicans tend to ignore it, even Hillary is now to the right of Bush, as she has called for sealing our boarders.
If the Republican party would listen to Tom, and do it with class - by the way, they can put the final nail in the Democratic coffin, and we'll all be done with these clowns.

Need to write to Cannon that he may be the one who doesn't belong. And I don't mean in the party, I mean in office.

>> When did the party of the Big Tent, become the party of lock step with the President or get out?
i'm about "out" over this issue. i, unlike others, can say this with a clear conscience, as i live in the gay state and rarely see any republicans (except for rino gov.'s) on my ballot. i think i'm sitting out 2006, why bother?
this issue is going to cost the gop dearly in if the rats capitalize (read lie through their teeth).

Tancredo seems to be the only one in Washington with the scrotum sac to tell the truth.
To: mondoman
President Bush and the republican party need to quit pandering to big business and listen to the people regarding Illegal immigration. I don't know anyone where I live who doesn't think that illegal immigration needs to be totally stopped. This is more important than social security, Iraq, or any other issue out there. Who the hell is this Cannon? He doesn't represent the views of any republican I know. Tancredo is the man! He has his priorities straight!
