(CBS/AP) Runaway bride Jennifer Wilbanks issued an apology Wednesday for disappearing just before her wedding day, saying, "I had a host of compelling issues that seemed out of control."
Wilbanks made her apology in a statement read by her father's pastor.
"At this time I cannot fully explain what happened to me last week. I had a host of compelling issues that seemed out of control," she said.
Wilbanks disappeared from her Georgia town last week and turned up days later in New Mexico. She staged her own kidnapping just days before her wedding, setting off a nationwide search.
In a statement read by her pastor, Wilbanks says her disappearance had "nothing to do with cold feet," and that it was not about trying to get out of marrying her fiance, John Mason. She says she can't explain her actions except that she was running away from "certain fears" controlling her life.
"She has already apologized numerous times to people," attorney Lydia Sartian told CBS' The Early Show prior to Wilbanks' statement.
"She is very sorry for the pain that she's caused her family, her fiancé, the community at large. She's very regretful of the inconvenience and the problems that she has caused."

I pick #3
People always whine about not enforcing the laws we have on the books.
Here we have a woman who buys bus tickets DAYS before the wedding. She sneaks out, deliberately creating the illusion that she had been kidnapped. Then, we have her cut her hair to avoid accidental discovery; and then making a 911 call to police where she reported that she had been kidnapped.
We know she planned this, we know she intentionally created a hoax, we know she reported a false crime.
And now she's sorry??
Charge her with every crime she has committed. When she gets her day in court, maybe she'll get 5 years; maybe she won't. But we should charge her with every crime she committed, if nothing else but as a deterent for other attention-starved lunatics.
You're such a risk taker....
One by one, the penguins are stealing my sanity ...
She has "issues".
As many issues as Time Magazine.
Expect to see this wack job on Couric, Oprah and then JERRY
I said it early and I'm saying it often: boyfriend on the side.
one of the best taglines i've seen.
Rape claim? Hadn't heard that one.
Leni
Ok, where do we send the dollar?
No really, I can't figure out what possible "issues" she had. Honestly, I think she is nuts and that is the issue, nothing more. However, whatever the reason she says that made her run away is I would love to know it.
We all have a "host of compelling issues" but don't stage our own fake kidnappings.
You're right. I forgot to set up the paypal account.
yeah, Loui Prima and Keely Smith.
