Retired Army Col. David Hackworth, a decorated Vietnam veteran who spoke out against the war and later became a journalist and an advocate for military reform, died Wednesday in Mexico, where he was receiving treatment for bladder cancer, his wife said. He was 74.
"He died in my arms yesterday morning," his wife, Eilhys England, said Thursday.
Hackworth, a syndicated columnist for King Features, advocated a streamlined military and improved conditions for troops.

The military took immediate aggressive steps to fix the problem when it was found out. The media largely ignored these ameliorative actions and puffed up the problem all beyond proportion, thus inflaming passions needlessly and contributing to a large number of innocent deaths.
In the end the military stood tall. But the media has yet to own up to its appalling behavior.
I know someone who was saved by laetrille (sp?) which had to be procured in Mexico. It's 30 years later and she's still alive and kicking.

"Dynamic team of VM providers helps medical center earn highest survival rate worldwide for pancreatic cancer patients."
You cited the VM story in your reply - the interesting thing is that they do not report what that "survival rate" might be - only that they successfully perform the surgery without death on the operating table.
Dr William Kelley, a dentist, successfully treated his own pancreatic cancer with digestive enzymes, and then went on to successfully treat many others, not only with pancreatic cancer, but other cancers. He was shut down.
A Dr. Nickolas Gonzalez, an MD who was a student of Dr Kelley's, is now persuing this with NCI grant money. This is an alternative treatment that is more than 100 years old, but has been suppressed, though it has proven success.
This treatment is often used, either by itself or complementary to other treatment protocols in Mexican clinics.
Many alternative treatments that work are used in this country, but under the radar. Occasionally these get "nailed" by the establishment and lies have actually been created to aid in the suppression. Some of those most outspoken about the suppression are MD's who have been a part of the establishment, but who have become knowledgeable about the successful alternatives.
If you were not so protective of "great American medicine" you might search out some of this yourself. There are many case histories citing suppression by the establishment. It really is all about money.
And why should we not have the freedom to choose what our medical care should be and who should provide it with what? Why do we have to be dependent on a system that condones killing with bad medicine? A system that suppresses SAFE HEALTH Alternatives? Patients should not have to go to Mexico to get viable, life saving treatments.
Probably didn't want to do the chemo crap they give you here. They may have been treating him with diet and supplements, etc.
Hack turned out to be rather prescient, while Hugh turned out to be what he always was, a cheerleader for neo cons with piety in one hand and a juvenile sense of humor in the other.
As a conservative I'd rather be led by Hack.
Colonel Hackworth's primary concern was the defense of the Nation. He cared deeply for the Men who were doing the fighting. He was the recipent of 10 Silver Stars, 8 Bronze Stars, the Distinguished Service Cross twice, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, 8 Purple Hearts and 3 nominations for the Medal of Honor. He spent 7 years in ground combat in Korea and VietNam. Hack was respected by soldiers on the ground. He wanted reform not the dismantling of our Military. He wanted tougher training for ground troops so more came home alive.
Get your facts straight. He was an honorable Man not a PC "Perfumed Prince". He was a real warrior not a phoney. His analysis of the War in Iraq has been 100% on the money. I have two kids in the war in ground combat units. One a Marine the other an Army Ranger. His death is a loss to the Nation.
Semper Fi Colonel Hackworth
Riding the number 7 NY subway it read "Los cockaroches entran...no puedo salir"
(no reference at all to Col. Hackworth, may he RIP)
"The VM survival results after the Whipple resection for pancreatic cancer followed by the VM protocol of chemotherapy and radiation therapy were published in the May issue of The American Journal of Surgery. The results showed that Virginia Mason had the highest survival rates for patients."

Day is done,
gone the sun,
from the field,
from the sea,
from the sky.
All is well,
safely rest,
God is nigh.
This is how I will think of him. Thanks.
What politics? Does anyone really know where he stood politically, philisophically? NO. His first priority was what best for the soldiers in his beloved Army.
He was against the Vietnam War after he realized that our government was wrong, and thought the same for the war we're in now. Does that make him a lefty?
"...Virginia Mason had the highest survival rates for patients."
Yes, I read that - what are those 'highest' survival rates - what are the actual numbers? How many cures? Any? (Conventional medicine normally does not use the word 'cure' - it is a four-letter word to them).
Hackworth may have many critics; prescious few of them have marched a mile in his boots.
one of the greatest combat leaders in this nation's history. to quote him addressing his soldiers in Vietnam: "the enemy will feel the renewed strength of the 4/39th INF through hot lead and cold steel."
