Group to promote immigration rewrite
San Antonio Express-News ^ | HernĂ¡n Rozemberg

A national pro-immigrant organization composed of religious, labor and union groups, to be unveiled today in San Antonio, is to call on leading Texas politicians to quit debating and enact laws giving legal work and residency to undocumented immigrants.

The Coalition for Comprehensive Immigration Reform will start in Texas and is to expand to other border states and the rest of the nation, said Luis Figueroa, an attorney with the San Antonio office of the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund.

It was formed now because changing the country's current immigration system is expected to be a top issue for Congress this year. Several reform measures already have been proposed, the latest being a highly anticipated bill by Sens. Ted Kennedy, D-Mass., and John McCain, R-Ariz., that is expected this month.

The coalition is to hold a news conference at Plaza San Antonio Hotel at 10:30 a.m. today. Coalition members want Texas leaders to support a bipartisan immigration reform bill that, among other key components, includes giving undocumented migrants an opportunity for permanent residency.

Specifically targeted is San Antonio's Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, the influential chairman of the Senate Immigration, Border Security and Citizenship subcommittee.

Cornyn has held several hearings on immigration and border issues and is drafting a reform bill along with Sen. John Kyl, R-Ariz., which he is to introduce in July.

"We're singling out Sen. Cornyn because we know no bill will get through without his support," Figueroa said. "He's in a unique position to benefit the immigrant and border community."

Eliseo Medina, vice president of the Service Employees International Union, said Cornyn should drop his bill and join with the McCain-Kennedy effort to ensure a law is enacted this year.

Many politicians in both parties agree the system needs a major overhaul, but not many concur on what to offer undocumented immigrants to end their underground existence.

Most Democrats want to give undocumented immigrants a chance to stay permanently.

Cornyn said he supports a "work and return program," such as proposed last year by President Bush, giving immigrants temporary legal work.

We need to make CRIMINAL INVASION a felony with a minimum one year jail and a $10,000 fine for first time invader.
We need to make aiding and abetting CRIMINAL INVADERS a felony with a minimum one year in jail with a $10,000 fine for each CRIMINAL abetted.

Should we support amnesty for illegal immigrants? That will be okay by me when hell freezes over.

These people committed a crime by coming here illegally. Therefore they are CRIMINALS and should be dealt with as such!

These groups are aiding and abetting a criminal and they should be arrested as well.

"Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund."

They've been quiet for a while. The check from the National Immigration Forum must have finally arrived.

Their website:
http://www.immigrationforum.org/

Has removed the list of prominently displayed corporate lobbies and ethnic lobby groups they purchased. They're getting smarter.

Permanent Residency conversion must be OFF the table.

Beware model laws proposed by liberals.

A national pro-immigrant organization composed of religious, labor and union leaders, to be unveiled today in San Antonio, is to call on leading Texas politicians to quit debating and enact laws giving legal work and residency to undocumented immigrants.

"Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah," said Luis Figueroa, an attorney with the San Antonio office of the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund.

Translation:

We claim we are pro-immigrant yet we advocate for undocumented immigrants and we never, ever, ever use the words "illegal aliens" because that would make us sad.

I can assure you that our republican representatives will go along with this. If business wants it the clowns we send to Washington and to Austin will fall in line. The elected ones seem to have forgotten who they represent, the people that vote.

"undocumented" ....

We already have 3 times as many illegals than are necessary
in the eyes of business. Truth is, they are wrecking the economy of California.

This will happen within the next five years, and it will change our nation forever.

Fernando Ortiz was a ‘landscape engineer’ on Long Island who had demanded to be able to vote, on the basis that he had been paying state and federal taxes for ten years. Actually, he had been stopped from casting a ballot by a poll watcher who had suspected his citizenship status, and (illegally, as it turned out) demanded proof of his identity and legal qualification to vote. Ortiz had won a multi-million dollar settlement against the Republican Party of New York in the subsequent “racial profiling and ethnic intimidation” civil suit, but he did not stop there.

Instead, with massive support from the ACLU and various Hispanic “immigrants rights” foundations, he had pressed his demand to be allowed to vote all the way to the Supreme Court…and he won. The Supreme Court, in its famous 5-4 decision, ruled that negligence in securing America’s borders against illegal immigration on the part of the federal government, could not be held against “undocumented workers who played by the rules and paid their taxes,” once they were established in America—legally or not. The federal government had not taken reasonable efforts to secure the border, and had not pursued "undocumented workers" in the USA. Instead, it openly permitted them most of the benefits of citizenship, and it collected their taxes. "No taxation without representation!" was the cry heard all the way to the Supreme Court. The State of New York had then sleep-walked through an aimless and desultory case for denying the vote—and citizenship—to “undocumented workers.”

Following Ortiz v. New York, a stunned America woke up to discover that there were not only an amazing twenty-two million illegal aliens hiding in plain sight across the land, but that eight million of them immediately qualified to vote. In a nation split 50-50 down party and ideological lines, these eight million new voters were recognized to be the certain majority-makers in future elections, and both parties set record lows for cravenness in pandering to their “needs.” Chief among their “needs” were liberal new family reunification laws, and these instant citizens—illegal aliens only a year before—began bringing the remainders of their families to the USA. Legally.

Overnight, wavering Democrat states became locks, and swing states with large Hispanic populations went solidly “blue.” The result was the recent election which had brought Gobernador Deleon to power in Nuevo Mexico, and had also brought radical Democrats to power in the White House and both houses of congress.

Thus had come the political tsunami which swept all before it, a tidal wave triggered by an undocumented lawn maintenance worker named Fernando Ortiz.
