I remember when I was in highschool in California. There was some kind of immagration propisition. It was funny how the Mexicans were waving the Mexican flag while protesting. If they are so proud of Mexico, why don't they go back.

Be careful what you wish for.
These idiots will wake up the day after scession and realize that they actually have to pay the bills to make their welfare state run. Realizing that, they will being to emigrate to what's left of the US (where they will be welcomed with open arms by the MSM).

Very informative article.
Those volunteers, elected officers and all, proved to be far better and more efficient solders than anyone, including the regular U.S. Army, ever guessed they would be. The regular U.S. Army, in the admission of the general commanding on the field (none other than Ol Rough an Ready Zachary Taylor himself) lost the battle of Buena Vista, which was the decisive U.S. victory in northern Mexico. One of the soldiers approached Taylor on the field and said Sir, the battle is lost. Taylor replied, I know that, sir, and you know that. The volunteers, however, do not know that. Let us see what they can do. The much-aligned volunteers won the battle for the U.S.
This is how I see the responsibility for our borders shaping up. The American volunteers have always won the battles for the US because America is the people. Its not supposed to be politicians who dole out welfare and decide every battle we should fight. Look at Texas for God sake. I hope this invasion problem and the way our "leaders" view it, on both sides, will cause our people to take responsibility for our country in all aspects.

Damn. Thanks for that article. Gotta read Simcox's rag more often...

187, and it wasn't likely to be national Mexicans protesting. More than likely they were anarchist Americans of Hispanic origin you saw.
Mexicans can't even take over their own country for their own good, they hardly have the guts to protest here on our soil against us.

Great post Libertylass! Thanks for all the typing you did to replicate it. American History never goes out of style. It's thrilling, bold and inspiring for those who sometimes forget.

Wasn't it part of the agreement under which Texas became a state that it could secede if it wanted to?

No, and I'm not sure how that oft-repeated belief came about.
The only unique thing in the treaty is the ability of Texas to divide into up to four more additional states if it wishes to, and the US has to accept them as new states.

"Cross the border from San Diego into Mexico and see the difference. Literally feet from out border is squalor, staggering poverty and deprivation.
Tijuana is a pig pen. It's dirty, run down and poverty and crime stricken.
Frankly, Mexico and Mexicans should stop trying to deflect attention from their existing disastrous problems and should get on with repairing their country."
You're 100% right about this. Very good observations and comments. It's quite true. It is positively shocking to walk out of the U.S. and into Tijuana. The contrast takes your breath away. One can't help understanding why millions of Mexicans living utterly hopeless lives want to come here. But the hopelessness of "life in Mexico" (for ordinary Mexicans) isn't our problem. As you rightly say, it is the problem of the Mexican government, and from the looks of it, they are doing nothing whatsoever to improve the standard of living for their own people. Nothing!

"The professor is an idiot. The Articles of Confederation were defunct with the institution of the Constitution of the United States of America. Only Texas has any sort of claim to a right to secede."
If Texas secedes, I'm moving there asap.
