Poll shock: Nearly half might back McGreevey 49% would consider voting for him again (gay ex-gov up)

Five months after Gov. James McGreevey left office in disgrace, a new public opinion poll shows that 49 percent of New Jerseyans would consider voting for him in a future election.

......Zogby International was commissioned by the gay rights advocacy group Garden State Equality to measure public support for gay marriage (which remains at 55 percent statewide). The group piggy-backed the McGreevey question onto the poll, largely in an effort to test electoral support for gay and lesbian candidates.

The poll asked voters what their opinion would be if McGreevey ran for another office, like Congress or the Legislature.

6 percent said they would never vote for McGreevey because he is gay.

43 percent said they would never vote for McGreevey, but for reasons other than his sexuality.

49 percent said they would consider voting for McGreevey, depending on the issues or opponents.

The poll even found that 30 percent of those who identified themselves as Republicans would consider voting for McGreevey, a Democrat.

"People in this state are so progressive, a straight politician might not have polled as well," Goldstein said. If on the basis of his sexuality "only 6 percent wouldn't vote for this man, who has all this baggage, my goodness, they would certainly support an openly gay candidate without the baggage."

The Zogby-Garden State Equality poll, which surveyed 804 New Jersey voters from April 12 to 14......was conducted two weeks before the former governor was fired from the Weiner Lesniak law firm amid ethical questions over McGreevey's representation of clients with whom he had signed state contracts.

The Garden State Equality-Zogby poll was aimed at measuring public opinion on gay marriage -- an idea that McGreevey publicly opposed during his administration.

The legality of gay marriage in New Jersey is tied up in state court.

Of course. This was a push poll---designed to get the results required by the gay brigade.

I don't trust any polls done by John Zogby. If this was a Rasmussen Poll I'd believe it.

Brother, are you on the wrong web site.

Gee, whiz, Liz! I went on to catalog the reasons why I would not vote for Mr. McGreevey. I don't support him for a lot of reasons. It is not necessary or even desirable to generalize these things from the fact that "His Truth is that he is a Gay American."

Not all gays carry the same baggage. But their luggage is usually fabulous!

zoombie can't be serious. If 6% say they won't vote for mcpinkie, the real number must be 18%.This is 2005. Nobody wants to be seen as an anti gay bigot ( well not more than 6% of the people anyway). Unless mcpinkie turns black and runs in Newark he can't win an election giving up 18 points, not even in New Jersey the land of the brain dead voter.

Frankly, I have a sneaking hunch that McGreevey is not as gay as he lets on...

But that's just me. Maybe I have the tinfoil wrapped too tight. It's shiny side out, right?

They can either push the results or drag the results. In this case its more aptly named a "drag" poll.

Heheh......maybe McG can try the Al Jolson routine.

The results are irrelevant b/c the questions are asked w/o any context. If he were ever to run for office again, his opponents would use the corruption scandals of his Administration to beat him. Although 49% say they would vote for him today, once they are reminded of the shady characters involved in and around his Admin, there's no way he would win -- not even in NJ.

Although 49% say they would vote for him today, once they are reminded of the shady characters involved in and around his Admin, there's no way he would win -- not even in NJ.

And the list is long, and revolting.

As we recall, convicted felon Kushner, the billionaire real estate mogul, McG's top donor, and contributor to the Clintons and the DNC, was sentenced on March 4 to two years in federal prison for his convictions on charges of assisting in the filing of false tax returns, and making false statements to the Federal Election Commission.

Kushner is also serving time for retaliating against a cooperating witness, for setting up his BIL in a videotaped sex assignation Kushner had arranged with a prostitute, and had actually mailed the tape to his own sister to intimidate the two who were federal witnesses against Kushner.

Kushner is infamous as the wealthy benefactor of high-profile Dumbocrats, including the Clintons. He donated millions to the Democratic party and was the largest single contributor to gay gov McGreevey, who was forced out of office b/c of massive corruption and his activities with gay blade Golan Cipel.

McGay stupidly installed his boyfriend, Cipel, as HomeLandSec advisor......the citizenry later discovered the individual sex-crazed McGay put in charge of their safety could not get security clearance b/c Cipel was not a US citizen.

While Cipel was working for the state's Democrat Party---his first US job in the USA---Kushner sponsored his work permit.

Cipel later threatened to out McG with a sexual harassment lawsuit which prompted McGreevey's resignation from office. At the time McG resigned, announcing that he "just found out" he was gay (poster laughs uproariously).

Now get this, Cipel's last work in the USA was a $7500 per month job with Tishman Construction Co, New York. At the same time, McGreevey signed off on on Tishman's bid for a $1.5 billion construction contract for-----surprise----Xanadu.

LOL ... I am from N.J.. Essex County to be exact. Republicans [capital R] are in short supply. Conservative Repubicans are a rarity.

RINO's (small r) are the rule and ... they do not. ;)

People in this state are so progressive...

"Progressive" is not an accurate characterization. We're just so used to corruption and scandal that we consider it a normal way of life here in NJ.
