Poll shock: Nearly half might back McGreevey 49% would consider voting for him again (gay ex-gov up)

Five months after Gov. James McGreevey left office in disgrace, a new public opinion poll shows that 49 percent of New Jerseyans would consider voting for him in a future election.

......Zogby International was commissioned by the gay rights advocacy group Garden State Equality to measure public support for gay marriage (which remains at 55 percent statewide). The group piggy-backed the McGreevey question onto the poll, largely in an effort to test electoral support for gay and lesbian candidates.

The poll asked voters what their opinion would be if McGreevey ran for another office, like Congress or the Legislature.

6 percent said they would never vote for McGreevey because he is gay.

43 percent said they would never vote for McGreevey, but for reasons other than his sexuality.

49 percent said they would consider voting for McGreevey, depending on the issues or opponents.

The poll even found that 30 percent of those who identified themselves as Republicans would consider voting for McGreevey, a Democrat.

"People in this state are so progressive, a straight politician might not have polled as well," Goldstein said. If on the basis of his sexuality "only 6 percent wouldn't vote for this man, who has all this baggage, my goodness, they would certainly support an openly gay candidate without the baggage."

The Zogby-Garden State Equality poll, which surveyed 804 New Jersey voters from April 12 to 14......was conducted two weeks before the former governor was fired from the Weiner Lesniak law firm amid ethical questions over McGreevey's representation of clients with whom he had signed state contracts.

The Garden State Equality-Zogby poll was aimed at measuring public opinion on gay marriage -- an idea that McGreevey publicly opposed during his administration.

The legality of gay marriage in New Jersey is tied up in state court.

"Maybe they should have asked if they'd vote for McGreevey if he married his boyfriend Cipel? The conventional wisdom is, it depends on how you frame the poll question."

Polls are a scurge to a representative democracy. The pitty is ... most don't see it.

That settles it. NJ's corrupt government is just a reflection of it's citizens.

Clearly proving once again that the toxic appendage attached to New York has been the dumping ground for every heavy metal and organophosphate ever conceived by man for so many years that Leftists in this hell-hole are brain dead!

.....the Star-Ledger has finally buried the fact that McSleezy bowed out of office to avoid an extortion charge.....

Perhaps the citizens of the state won't have to wait too much longer for justice.

Granted every job McGay is connected with is now tainted b/c of his corrupt activities in government----but Lesniak must have had a good reason to dump his pal McGreevey from the billion $$ Xanadu project (which McG had approved as one of his last official acts.)

Lesniak clients Mack-Cali and Mills Corp (Xanadu developers) were drawn to Lesniak's legal firm not by his expertise, but by his close friendship with McGay, and the behind-the-scenes ability to pull strings and rig the porcess for the favored few insiders.

Lesniak, Mack-Cali and Mills Corp clearly felt their interests were jeopardized by McG's presence on the project----McG got dumped the day after he went public by attending a Xanadu meeting.

Maybe Lesniak, Mack-Cali and Mills Corp even got wind that an indictment of McGreasy is coming down the pike.

Do New Yorkers really like to hear Frank Sinatra 'songs'?

Can't speak for all New Yorkers, but I like to hear a Sinatra tune from time to time.

LOL! They're brain-dead in New Jersey. These people are going to put Jon Corzine in office. You just watch.

There are few conservatives in New Jersey. The Republican establishment are corrupt RINOs. I'd rather vote for a corrupt Democrat. At least they steal from you in broad daylight.

You nailed it beautifully.

NJ voters are stuck in the foul sewer of political correctness.

Leftie libs use the PC club to beat back believers, to silence moralists of every faith.

That leaves only corrupt, clueless ding-a-lings like McGreevey occupying the public square.

Let the word go forth that PC is dead, killed by a culture corrupted and devastated by the PC atrocity. Secularists had their chance.....they screwed up bigtime.

I would not rule out voting for McGreevey because of his sexuality. He does not use that particular part of his anatomy for signing bills or any other part of the job. It is more his fondness for taxes than his fondness for menfolk that rules him out in my book.

Also, the full parameters of his financial improprieties was never explored as a result of his "explosive" admission, because everybody had to pretend, all of a sudden, that they had no inkling of what we had all known about for years. If he ever ran for office, you can bet his opponent would hammer him on corruption 24/7, and let the anti-gay vote take care of itself. No way would McGreevey be able to put together 50%.

The photo of McSleezy doesn't show the skirt and high heels he/she has on. I want to puke every time I see that wad of phlegm on TV.

Key wording is "would consider voting". No one wants to sound like they would not consider him even if they know they probably would not vote for him. These words skew the results.

Oh, please. Did you just feel a cold chill across your keyboard? Brother, are you on the wrong web site.

Being gay carries with it a lot of baggage----all of it anathema to conservatives. Viscerally liberal already, McGay would hew to a left liberal agenda reinforced by the gay political mafia.

Although there are fiscally conservative gays, most of them are blatantly pro-abortion, pro-Planned Parenthood, pro-ACLU, and so on. Not very amenable to conservatives.
